I´ve listened to this one a lot lately, and I´m really liking it. Obituary never release made a bad release. Only a few which are sub par to their best, and I´d put this one in the better half of their output. I like the thrash influences which has crept into the music.

I´ve only listened to the early releases, which I like, but I´m slowly catching up.

Enjoying this one a lot this week. Crushing old school DM that is very likely going to kick something out of my top 30 best of year list.

^ Mine too. If the rest of the albums as good as that I'll be very happy.

I heard the new Obituary single, and it sounded pretty great to my ears.

About time we had something new from Sulphur Aeon. All 3 of their albums so far have been awesome. Doesn't seem to be anything in the pipeline unfortunately but it's been 4 year's now since The Scythe of Cosmic Chaos.

^ I did have a listen to that at the time it came out I seem to remember and added it to my possible buy list but wanted to check it out again first as I was on the fence about it. Thanks for the reminder and I will certainly give it another go.

Will check it out. Thanks Paul.

This is one I enjoyed earlier in the year and forgot about. Gorguts inspired but with the occasional symphonic prog passage. Great stuff

Thanks those are nice recommendations. Hadn´t heard of Static Abyss before, and I`m otherwise a pretty big Reifert fan.

FLESHCRAWL - Descend Into the Absurd cover

...and it is still an album which is high on my list of old school death metal releases. The combination of ultra slow death/doom parts and faster old school death metal may sound a little awkward to some, but it´s the anarchistic nature of the product which somehow speaks to me.

Fleshcrawl are interesting, as this is their only album I enjoy. The remaining part of their discography somehow sunk into cloning Dismember again and again. I´m not sure why they didn´t continue this awesome sound.

VARIOUS ARTISTS (GENERAL) - Touch Of Death cover

I have this compilation, and it has two outstanding tracks - Fleshcrawl and Bathory. I've never been able to find any Fleshcrawl albums. I should really check them out.

There's been quite a few really solid death metal albums this year so far.  I will post them one at a time and leave a week or two between each as to not saturate the thread.  First up:

Suppression - The Sorrow of Soul Through Suffering

Old school death at the core with a few touches of modern flair but nothing that should put off those who don't enjoy the dissonance.  The fretless bass is exceptionally good.  I bought it on Bandcamp but since then it has now also become available on Spotify.
