It depends. if the vote is 20 for alt and 2 for funk, it would suggest an alt metal release with some funk influence. That would go under alt. If the vote is about the same, then yes it would make sense for the child sub to override the parent.

Yeah always check the votes against as well as the votes for. And also how many of them there are. You will come across albums on RYM that people tagged the same for years then suddenly someone decided to suggest differently. This sort of thing doesn't show up if you don't get into the actual voting page, and the previous voters often don't see the change for a long time to vote against it (most RYM votes happen when the release is new).

And finally ...

Don't be over-concerned about making the wrong call. We need the database to be as accurate as possible, but mistakes will happen during an exercise such as this. We can't listen to every album / artist unfortunately. I'd like to, but no-one will pay me to do so, so I have to go to work instead.

I would recommend checking out metal archives and Wikipedia as well. RYM doesn't always get it right. I'm down with the death doom myself. It is a perfectly valid distinct sub

I've started work on funk metal but someone seems to be a step ahead of me, almost every artist I check has already been done.

Finding a quite few funk metal releases in avant-garde for some reason by the way.

If it looks Iike a funk as opposed to an AG release (with funk influences) then move them. I've already moved a
Mr Bungle album.

Have done (I'll report in bulk when I stop). There were no Ag tags on RYM so it looked pretty safe to move the ones I did.

Seeing many bands in this RYM chart who are not here as well.

By the way how do you move a whole discography in bulk? I'm having to move some profiles releases by release.

Go into edit artist (not release) and there's a drop down at the bottom. Sometimes it's easier changing everything at once this way and moving the odd release back than changing by individual release

Make a note of missing funk metal artists and bulk post the names in a suggest bands post at the end, Ashley.

I wonder if regular collaborators can't edit artists? I don't think I could when I was Metal Reviewer.

If you post all the bands to be moved in bulk in the alt team thread, I can then move them.
If I say fuck two more times that's forty-six fucks in this fucked up rhyme

It's possible. Alternatively we could always upgrade you?

So long as my current arrangment still stands, that will be helpful. I'm done with RYM's funk chart now though.

Those funk metal bands sure have some, well, funky names.

Loving all the genre expansions.

I agree on death-doom being added as well by the way.

Was it intentional though that the Metal Related Genres sub and children now be placed part way through the metal sub-genres? I think it looked much better at the end of them.

Nice one Max, thanks.

I think Chris may have some suggestions for some subs but for now could you please also add Death-Doom Metal under Doom Metal?
