So, Carcass last night...

Was going to go with my step-son, but he couldn't make it. I took my apprentice metalhead from work instead. He'd never even been to a proper live show before!

First band was a local band called Pieces of Molly. Would be one of the worst bands I've seen in a long time. Had a great guitarist who had a good singing voice, but the frontman was a complete egomaniac fuckwit.

The Black Dahlia Murder went down a storm. I didn't like them. Got fucking bored. Got in the pit for a while, but it was just meh. All the technical skill in the world, but no feel or atmosphere.

While Carcass were setting up, the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate the building. It was because some fuckwit had been vaping and set off the alarm. Entitled cunt. Had to stand outside in the pissing rain. The look on the firemen's faces was priceless - obviously never seen a metal crowd before!

Carcass were just fucking brilliant. Jeff Walker is fucking tiny, and his bass is nearly as big as he is! Loved his sarcastic banter. "This place stinks. It stinks of semen." The venue is the former Maritime  Union building.LOL Got front and centre again, and sang "Keep On Rotting In The Free World" eye to eye with him. Bill Steer seems like a trippy old death metal hippie. Nippy Blackford fell off the stage at one point, and carried on playing sitting on the floor.

Anyway, I scored two guitar picks - one each from Carcass and TBDM. My young apprentice enjoyed himself. One of the managers from work was in the pit behind me, and he had a great time too.

Sounds like a more lively Carcass show than the ones I´ve been to, where the band and the crowds have been pretty static. The last show I saw was still pretty great though. Maybe the fact that they come by so rarely makes a difference in New Zealand.

Later on this computer will be packed up and ready to go for our move from Pennsylvania back to Massachusetts. Won't be on here for about a week or so.

Moving because of a job situation?

I´ve yet to visit any other US state than California (other than landing shortly in Salt Lake City, Utah), but I´d like to visit some of the north eastern states sometime.

I've been (a couple of times) to Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. Impressive when you come out of a tunnel through the surrounding hills and the city is laid out in front of you.

I´m actually going to San Diego this summer on a business trip, but my family will be with me, so they can have the experience of visiting USA too.

Nah, it's my stepfather's health insurance down here....they don't cover shit, he literally has to pay out of pocket almost every time he's sees the doc! Which is killing us financially. The health insurance in MA covers a lot more. That's the gist of it, anyway.

The whole heath insurance thing in the US is a bit hard to understand for us. Every person in Denmark (including illigal immagrants and homeless people) are allowed treatment and medicine. Treatments don´t cost anything, but medicine does. It´s not fortunes, but of course some medicines are relatively expensive, but there is a price ceiling and when you reach that ceiling as a patient, the medicine is pretty much for free. Paying taxes is actually not that bad in that respect. Well...I´m a socialist to the bone, so of course I don´t mind paying my taxes as long as every person in our society gets equeal opportunities in terms of education, health, and medicine...and that they do. Education is free for everybody here too. No need for scholarships or being the best athlete. Regular folks with a normal IQ can also get a college education for free.

I hope it helps your father that you move back to MA. USA is a hard place to live if you´re ill or poor.

Now THAT'S an understatement! I think it's high time this country switch from capitalism to socialism already. The conservatives would take issue w/ that of course...but HEY! They're conservatives...who really gives a shit what they think!WinkLOL

There's a cheesy magazine article about the company I work for just been published.

https://www.avenues.net.nz/all-stories/2024/5/29/innovation-helping-millions

It's always kind of hard to explain what I do for a job, so this is it.Smile

Sounds like a clever concept - can't understand why it's not been done before. Are there specific providers of expertise you use? I guess the danger is publishing best practice or a local solution that another clinician disagrees with?

And which one are you on that picture? Wink

We have what are called clinical editors for every region (a region is usually a primary health care provider, like NHS South Tyneside in the UK, or Brisbane North PHN in Australia) who are medical professionals. They usually write up what they think is appropriate for a condition and then it gets referred onto a specialist in whatever field it's in (e.g. cardiology, respiratory, neurology).

And yeah, they disagree all the time.Big smile There's a committee of sorts who arbitrates disputes, and has the final say on things.

After it's been through all that, we write it up in plain English so that GPs can understand it. I specifically deal with four regions in Queensland in Australia.

Anyone see Bruce Dickinson on tour? Saw him a couple of weeks ago in a smallish venue in Manchester and Bruce and the band were seriously good.

Anyway, in a bigger venue it's Tool tonight. Love me a good gig Big smile

Both Bruce Dickinson and Tool are on the poster for Copenhell 2024 Festival, which I´ll attend in three weeks time. I´ll probably go see Bruce, but I´ll probably skip Tool. Last time I saw them was one of the most boring and introvert concert performances I´ve seen, and I was not impressed...or entertained. I hope you´ll enjoy them more than I did.

They were really good but it was very much a heavy prog concert rather than a usual metal gig. No harsh vocals across the two hour set ;-)

Did Maynard leave his spot behind the drum kit, and actually interacted with the audience? Because when I saw Tool he was just standing on the stage as far from the audience as possible, and didn´t say a word during the whole set. Maybe some people find that cool and entertaining, but I found it way too introvert and as I don´t really enjoy much tool after the second album anyways, it became a very long night.

Where did this maniac Maynard go? (2:48 into the video Big smile).

Now that´s something I´d like to have witnessed LOL. He even sings while holding the fan down. Hilarious.

Ha brilliant LOL

You can't really tell from the photo below (it was just a snap taken without any thought) but it shows the arrangement. Maynard was further back than the drum kit and apart from asking people to put their phones away ("cos if you can't do without them for two hours you have a fucking problem") at the beginning and telling them they could film the last song at the end, there was no real interaction with the audience. Musically Tool were brilliant and the background graphics really worked, but Maynard is no Bruce Dickinson (or most front-men/women I can think of) in terms of style.

Is it just me or do some users on this site reserve 4-star ratings exclusively for progressive metal releases only. Am I crazy? Please tell me I am!

I haven´t noticed, and I certainly don´t rate like that myself Tongue.

But you could be right. Some people rate music in an odd way, or use a weird system, that only they understand.
