GRUESOME: No Clean Singing Debuts Opening Track From Impending Relapse-Bound Album By Death Metal Division

Members Of Exhumed, Possessed, Malevolent Creation And Derketa Unite

While Relapse Records puts the final grisly details in place for the release of Savage Land, the debut album from Death-inspired metal collective, GRUESOME -- uniting members of Exhumed, Possessed, Malevolent Creation, Derketa and more -- No Clean Singing has unleashed the opening title track to the disc.

Channeling inspiration from one of death metal's iconic, founding American acts, Death, into their own mangled interpretation, GRUESOME's Savage Land, a truly horrid slab of late-'80s/early-'90s Florida-styled death metal created in homage to the late Chuck Schuldiner's early masterworks, is humbly determined to keep the band's sound alive as authentically as possible. Opening the floodgates to the punishing first release from the outfit is the album's title track, which now sees early release via No Clean Singing, who issues of the repulsive reverence,"GRUESOME's talents are so impressive that they have pulled off a feat that would be beyond the capabilities of most musicians: They've written new songs that really do faithfully invoke the sound and spirit of Death's early albums - and they're so damned good that you'd fall for them even if you didn't know Death had ever existed. 'Savage Land' sounds like it crawled from the grave, a resurrected zombie of late '80s/early '90s Floridian death metal. It romps, it lurches, it crawls. The riffs slash and burn, they thrash and hammer, they slither and writhe, they generate an authentic stench of morbid atmosphere. The savagery of the vocals matches the intensity of the music, and the song includes guitar soloing that's to die for."

Notesdrummer Gus Rios, "What was to become 'Savage Land' started out as a kind of funny sounding guitar pro demo, complete with midi drums. [guitarist/vocalist] Matt [Harvey] had already sent me his first demo song, but this was the track that sent me into a renewed sense of excitement for playing metal! It sounded like a lost Death demo from '88-'89! I knew right then and there that I would see this project through to completion. Most people have already heard the demo version, so this album track will really showcase the upgraded production value of the full length."

Relapse Records will issue Savage Land on CD and all digital outlets in North America via April 21st, preceded by its European release dates, April 17th in Germany, Benelux and Finland and April 20th in the UK and rest of the world. Physical preorders are available now at THIS LOCATION, and digital preorders HERE.

The GRUESOME collective was borne out of guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed) and drummer Gus Rios' (Malevolent Creation) mutual involvement with the Death To All tours, as Harvey handled frontman duties for the original nine-member mini-tour, and Rios executed "Baptized In Blood" and worked with DTA drummer Sean Reinert on the following US tour where Exhumed filled in as direct support. The pair stayed in touch and discussed their mutual obsession for the early half of Death's catalog. After deliberating and ultimately discarding the idea of putting together another incarnation of DTA to focus exclusively on the first two albums, Harvey half-jokingly suggested writing their own songs in that vein. It wasn't long before the idea gained traction, and the "band" had five songs written. Rios recruited Possessed guitarist Daniel Gonzalez and Derketa bassist Robin Mazen and the lineup was complete. Savage Land was recorded by Rios and Gonzalez at Riversound Studios in Fort Lauderdale, Florida -- except Harvey's vocals, which were recorded in California -- mixed by Jarrett Pritchard at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida, and features a guest guitar solo on "Closed Casket" by James Murphy as well as cover art by legendary illustrator Ed Repka (Death, Megadeth, Massacre, Atheist etc.l).

Stand by for additional news on GRUESOME as Savage Land's release date draws near.
