I love Repka's album covers! Haven't heard this one, but that cover looks like classic thrash material to me! NP: ![]() Tellus Requiem - Invictus (The 11th Hour) (2013) |

I suggest you check it out! I'd consider the band's sound as a hybrid of trad heavy metal and speed metal. There sure is some headbangin' riffs on the album, it's really fun to listen to. NP: ![]() Edited by VargTheViking - 16 Feb 2013 at 11:32am |

Elm Street sounds like something that I might enjoy too. Will have to try and remember to check it out.

![]() Its not often I review anything that isnt present either on Prog Archives or here on Metal Music Archives, but I recently loaned "The Future of War" by Atari Teenage Riot and completely fell for they ber aggressive sound. So I wrote this review and posted it on RYM: "The Future of War" is the 2nd album by German digital
hardcore act Atari Teenage Riot. The album was released in March 1997 through
Digital Hardcore Recordings in Europe and Grand Royal in the US. The band are a
three-piece with a female singer, a male singer/rapper and Alec Empire, who is
responsible for composing, programming, sampling, singing and for producing the
album.
The music on "The Future of War" is an extremely aggressive type of hardcore featuring electronic beats, distorted samples and shouting aggressive punk type vocals (and occasinal rap). For the most part its very energetic music, with militant hardcore riffs and powerful electronic beats. There are samples from artists such as Bad Brains, The Nuns and Slayer in the music and they are always used in a clever and aggressive fashion. The vocals are predominantly caustic in nature. Shouted out with extreme aggression and a hopeless despair. This is the soundtrack to a trip gone bad. Putrid and dark urban decay. While the music is rooted deep in hardcore punk and electronic music, there is a metallic edge to some of the proceedings, although the music probably shouldnt be described as metal. No matter what you label the music its the relentless aggression thats in the highseat and tracks like "Fuck All", "Sick to Death" and "you Cant Hold Us Back" deliver just that. The more electronic tinged and repetitive "Destroy 2000 Years of Culture" and "Redefine the Enemy, which features a rap type vocal delivery are slightly different in nature, but its still the unpleasant sound of something thats gone terribly wrong you are treated to. To quote a Napalm Death album title: "Fear, Emptiness, Despair". Somewhere in the midst of chaos, noisy distored samples, loud and energetic electronic beats and shouting aggressive vocals, there are actually quite a few catchy hooks on the album. The tracks dont require more than a couple of spins before they stick and thats actually quite the achivement considering how abrasive, loud and chaotic sounding the music generally is. "The Future of War" is certainly a harsh listen and probably not for everyone, but its a damn original way of playing hardcore (or at least was in 1997), thats for sure. A 4 star (80%) rating is deserved. Edited by UMUR - 16 Feb 2013 at 6:15pm |
