From what I understand, it was supposed to be a Star Wars movie early in development, but things didn't work out, so he re-purposed it as its own thing. I think I've only seen two of his movies (Watchmen and Man of Steel), but from trailers and reviews, I get the impression his movies are grim dark and joyless just for the sake of it, with no real point, and the trailer I saw for Rebel Moon gave me that same impression. I may try it one night as a joke, but I'm not expecting much from it, lol

He has said the second one is already good to go, and will be out sometime next year. It was marketed as a two-parter.

^It´s not terrible, but it had the potential to be so much better, hence my disappointment. Definitely Star Wars influenced. I don´t see much Firefly in this one.

OK, I'm gonna go against the prevailing opinions I've read and say I like this. It's got an aesthetic which owes as much to Firefly as to Star Wars, but also has a brutality which neither of those have. I'll keep watching if more come out.

So the new big budget Netflix sci-fi movie Rebel Moon...

It looks nice, but the story, the acting, the dialogue...ugh it´s such a drag:

Also known as Cactus Jack. Tries really hard to be a live action version of a cartoon Western villain, and has lots of Wile E. Coyote-style slapstick in it, but ultimately not very good. Stars Kirk Douglas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Ann-Margaret.
