proggers can actually be of some the most close-minded of musical listeners.

and that is an urban myth..LOL.   prog has BECOME a genre all it's own.. no different from punk, country or reggae.  We all know it.   Prog today is often progby the numbers. Insert song length... some degree of complexity.. and some fruity lyrics and voila.. you have prog.  The great stuff is the stuff that avoids the typical prog convention.. and is.. err.. progressive in it's approach to music.

However by doing do...  some then can't see it as prog since it lacks....

Welcome to the club. Recently I expanded my musical horizon to reggae (that's the 20th or so musical genre I embrace, but not your usual Bobness, the obscure guys like the excellent keyboardist Jackie Mittoo or the even more obscure Cornell Campbell).

yes, proggers are boring.

Always trying to convince themselves that their music is the best (which is very far from being true) and even wanting to prove anyone else that other musical genres should be regarded as prog (Helloween, Stevie Wonder (!!!), Judas Priest, William Sheller). Why don't they call a cat a cat : Stevie Wonder = black music, Helloween = power metal, Judas Priest = heavy metal, William Sheller = chanson franaise...

Ok. But... who is Scott? Confused

have often noticed ..after years doing it at PA's that you should never judge a band by the myspace tracks. They often are not reflective of a groups sound.. and our very often geared to being friendly on the ears.. or in some cases.. putting out a wide net to draw listeners in... ie.. highlighting more mainstream aspects of their sound.  What is myspace anyway.. it's advertising.. first rule in advertising... get them interested.. then hit them with the real product.

As I said, I've got their full album at my disposal. If you think the myspace tracks aren't sufficient I will gladly upload it for you. Maybe it'll be more convincing. Just tell me who I am supposed to send it to.

I do believe they should find a place here. Smile

I guess there's no proper folk metal team, yeah. And I agree about that any collab can freely take a listen and judge (if there's no disagreements from anyone else).

I haven't listened to the band, but once again I provide my statistics if they are of any use:
- the band is in Metal Archives ("psychedelic folk metal")
- the most popular tag in last.fm is "folk", then "folk metal"

Off-topic: I was planning that after I'm done with checking all the black metal profiles I will browse all the folk metal ones.

Is there still a Folk-Metal team here? If this is not the case, before we find some replacements (or additional members), we should probably rely on the judgment of those like Kim, who are willing to listen and evaluate any material at our disposal.

I don't think any of their MySpace tracks sound like metal to me. Better wait for the folk metal team to return from whatever they're doing to check this out.

I'll check them out ... since the Folk Metal team is very inactive these days.

ŻYWIOŁAK are a Polish band who should find their place here IMO. They are usually described as pagan folk-metal.

Official website: http://www.zywiolak.pl.

Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/zywiolak.

PA entry: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=4579.

I've got their album, Nowa Ex-Tradycja, and can provide it if needed.

Best regards,
Bartek
