Unrecognizable URL in "Edit Artist" page

When adding the following band, Counterblast (http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/counterblast.aspx), I attempted to add their official website: http://home.swipnet.se/~w-17498/

Attempting this resulted in the red Incorrect url text message appearing below the "Artist webiste" box.  Does this have to do with the unusual ~ (swirly ) shape in the address?
