Is anyone familiar with this organization? I've been fascinated by it recently... it's really amazing that people would deny scientific facts to this extent. It goes back to the old saying... "you're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts". Wink

I just hope this can lead to some good discussion. This group of people really has me baffled. Wacko

I love this line, "In 1995, a fire destroyed the Johnson's home as well as all of the Flat Earth Society's library, archives and membership lists". I wonder who could have done that LOL

But it all seriousness these people are just plain stupid, you can travel from California to China to Europe and not fall of the earth, people have done it.

That's a legitimate organization, don't hate just because they are different

I'm not hating, nor am I critiquing them because they are "different". I opened this thread because I wanted to discuss how much people will ignore proven facts, and their ridiculous reasoning to do so. To dispute a demonstrable fact in favor of a theory that has been disproved and has no actual scientific evidence to support it is something that (I think) could lead to some good discussion. I was genuinely curious what some people thought on this topic. Smile

Oh, it's a legitimate society.

I really have nothing to say. People are dumb and crazy, we all know that.
...I hope they enjoy themselves while they sit around talking about how the Earth is flat and science, pictures and common sense are all conspiracies. lol

Really though, whatever!

I wonder what else they would deny in terms of astronomy. If the Earth were indeed flat (as it is according to their theory), virtually everything we know about the universe is entirely incorrect. This would mean no gravity, no moon landing, no solar system... thoughts?

I'm not hating because they're different, nor am I really "hating;" I just find it REALLY funny that they don't believe in almost 700 years of proven scientific fact. Go an believe whatever you want, it's not that your different, I just find it ridiculous that people would still believe that. Saying the earth is flat is like saying cows are orange - you just have to look at it to see your wrong.

I am pretty sure the Flat Earth Society are people with too much free time and scientific knowledge screwing with people.

Oh Henry....what are you doing in here?

It is true. I remember being taught way back in elementary school even, that the idea of the flat Earth may have been the "norm" but there were people who talked about a round Earth. I believe there were books written about it, and that (maybe it wasn't talked about) but the round earth notion was known by a lot of the science community.

I mean you see a ship come out of nowhere over the horizon. Unless it is coming from the underside of the flat Earth, seems pretty obvious!

It's like saying Magellan didn't exist. Columbus merely thought the earth was round.
