And the Epic (Fail) Games Store saga continues, in a big way. So, the issue is my brother wants nothing to do with them, because apparently they share your private data with people (which is fucked up) as well as just having questionable practices in general, but now a bunch of his hyped up games are getting scooped up by them as exclusives, including his most anticipated game The Outer Worlds, as well as The Sinking City and Control. Those are games I'm hyped up for as well, and I can get them on PS4, obviously, but I'm torn because I'd almost feel bad playing games he can't, because of this stupid exclusivity nonsense. Epic Games literally just killed his interest in gaming, I think

Hope they know that no one in their right mind will ever crowdfund them again.

Yep, it sounds like all that crowdfunding money was a complete waste, and it wasn't even needed
My brother has decided he won't even get the game when it's on Steam, not even during a sale. I agree with him, though I probably wouldn't have bought the game, anyway, because I suck at XCOM and the like, which it's supposed to be similar to. In frustrating news for me, I was highly anticipating Judgment, a new game from the developers of Yakuza, but due to crazy Japanese laws and culture, sales of the game have been canceled, because one of the voice actors/face models for the game was arrested for....... Cocaine. That's it, seriously! Now, even if it gets a worldwide release, they'll likely have to recast the character first, because they'd need to change the look of the character if they don't want to be associated with that actor anymore, so it was scheduled to be released in late June, but I doubt that will happen, now. Basically, the gaming industry is going down the toilet in a hurry. At least Capcom is on a roll right now, and Sekiro, from the Dark Souls developer, is out next week and looks awesome. Otherwise, though, gaming is pretty much fucked, right now.

'They'd still be in the black.'
Outright confirming that Epic threw more cash at them than the total of their pre-orders. Scum.

Apparently, they literally don't care. Here's a quote my brother showed me, that's basically "Ha ha, we already got your money to fund the game, now we don't you anymore, so fuck off!) https://preview.redd.it/h85ndar19vl21.png?width=960&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=ba1610b4e43e94a50abc60040f48071dee534a1a

Not heard of the game but yeah, another dick move in support of Epic.
Basic fact with a lot of games/devs is that they made their names on Steam and would not have done so well without Steam and it's community. Now they are stabbing the platform in the back for a quick payout and a bigger take - which I do understand the latter but I wonder how many have really crunched the numbers on how many sales will be lost by jumping onto Epic's bandwagon?

While they honoured actual Steam pre-orders for Exodus, they also did the same thing for keys from other sources plus physical copy keys.
The money behind Epic probably thinks they're being really clever by sniping year long exclusives (or permanent ones) away from Steam, but they must be dumb if they don't realise how much ill feeling they are creating for their brand so early in its lifetime. Same goes for the devs and publishers that take these deals. They're destroying their reputation. Epic store pretends to be the best thing to happen to PC gaming in years. It reality it could very well destroy it.

On the Epic (Fail) Game Store front, my brother helped back a game called Phoenix Point through Kickstarter, and he got stabbed in the back. He was expecting to get a Steam copy when the game came out, because that's what he paid for, but the developer just announced that it will be an Epic (Fail) Game Store exclusive for a year. Backers WILL get a Steam copy, but apparently not until the fully year is up Needless to say, my brother asked for a refund, and thankfully he got it. That's still insanely scummy practice, though, to announce a change in platform for a Kickstarter game, that late, long after people already paid to have the game on a certain platform.

I've just completed Exodus. It was a good game overall in spite of some technical issues but I don't think it's completion time (approx 20 hours) really equates to a £50 title.

I'm actually kinda glad I'm waiting an extra year, unless we get it on console in the meantime. Pretty sure all of you playing it now have just been conned into being paying beta testers.

Second bug this morning: fell right through the road. Game decided autosave one second after the fall began. Lost a ton of progress.
Also the debacle continues: Epic Store version has received it's first patch which has been withheld from Steam users.

The second area in Exodus turned out to be a short action level. I'm now on the second main open level, where performance has taken yet another drop, so much so I've been forced down from High settings to Medium (which still looks pretty good).

I take this back - the guide was wrong about the first part counting. But: the game's performance has become unplayable upon reaching the next level. Uncontrollable stuttering even though FPS is above 60 all the time.

Well I just hit my first real bug.
In the first main level there's a mission where you have to steal a rail carriage for the train. It's in a heavily guarded area so I decided to try to go full stealth for the mission. Impossible. Even though I approached the area in stealth mode from a distance, leaving the noisy rail car a way back next to the nearest safe house so as to not attract attention, the enemies are already aware of my presence by the time I get close to the mission area and are actively searching for me as if I have broken stealth. I know for a fact that I have not. The autosave has also fucked me over by triggering after I entered the area, not at the start of it. I've managed to back out of the area and there's another area I can explore in the meantime which I hope resets this mission, otherwise I'm going to have to go in guns blazing and if there's one thing this supposed shooter has taught me already it's that it doesn't actually like it is you do that (guaranteed bad ending). So feelings are turning more mixed as I progress.

I think my biggest issue with Exodus so far is that I decided to look up if this game has a good or bad ending and apparently it does and I already fucked up toward getting the good one on the first part of the first main mission, which really seems far too early in the game to decide how it's going to end. I think I'm allowed one more fuck up in the whole game now, otherwise I get the bad ending and my earlier fuck up apparently means one of the NPC characters on the train, who wasn't even involved in that first part of the mission, is going to die.

Yeah it's good to see that the majority are actually judging the game rather than the business decision, even if many positive reviews do also have a dig at the Epic Store in them.
The forum is pretty toxic though. There are definitely noticeable factions that range from boycott supporters who deem anyone playing the game whether on Epic, Steam or console a traitor, to Epic Store defenders who think the move is the best thing since sliced bread. Of course that one has those who really think that and those who have nothing better to do because they're trolling, probably because they haven't bought the game on Epic themselves.

So far it actually looks like Exodus is escaping a bad reviewing bombing. 'Very Positive' grade on the Steam store currently.

Well it's not true open world as there are still levels with no back tracking, they are just much bigger and open after a few opening prologue sections that feel like the first two games.
I really haven't played enough of the first main level to form a true opinion of the game, but there are still underground parts to explore as well as buildings so far. The good thing is, the air is clear outside of Moscow, so you're not worrying about gas mask filters all the time (though these can be crafted now, as can other supplies and ammo).
