^ That's easily one of my favourite MCU movies. And probably is the best serious one. Thor: Ragnarok probably takes the cake for the comedic MCU. And Spider-Man: No Way Home for the sheer geek out factor.

Yep, still easily the best of the MCU movies I've seen. I remember watching it at the same time as Agents of Shield back in the day, which made it extra effective, but now even with my memories of that series behind me (I gave it up around the end of Season 3, if I remember right) this was still as great as ever, especially after having seen the first Captain America movie, so it makes a lot more sense now, lol As far as action goes, this is honestly going to be hard to top, as there's more of it here than any other MCU movie I've seen (even the first Avengers) and there's plenty of tension throughout, so it all feels urgent and intense.

Not as fun or charming as the first movie, and it lacks the fish out of water feeling that made that one hilarious at times, but it still has some great action as usual, and there's some really good scenes in the second half. Definitely more of a middling MCU movie, though.

Something of a companion of Ceylan's first film Kasaba in that it fictionalises the making of it. Ceylan's third film. A psych drama dealing with loneliness. It ought to be depressing, but somehow its not. Some amazing visually stunning shots here. That's true of all his work, but this feels like the point his game was stepped up. Other than these two, I've been mainly re-watches the last few days: Pretty sure I've written about this one before on here and don't have much to add about it. As always, though, darker and more messed up than you'd expect from the poster. This one is such a gem and I always feel like hardly anyone watched it. I just got the Alien collection on blu-ray, so I'm watching the whole series in chronological order. I've seen this one a couple of times before, but the sequel will only be the second viewing. Somehow only the second time watching this. Potentially my favourite slasher on account of it pisstaking other slashers.

Well, I was actually wrong about one thing, that being that I actually liked Guy Pierce just fine in this one, so it does in fact buck the trend of Iron Man movies with annoying actors playing the villain. My initial opinion of this being my favorite MCU movie pre-Winter Soldier still stands, though. It's hard to even explain why, since it's still as silly as ever, but somehow on a more personal level a lot of the time, and I find it's the MCU movie that keeps me the most consistently entertained from start to finish, without any scenes I don't enjoy (but yeah, I remember Winter Solder topping it, so we'll see how that goes on Tuesday.)

If Sharknado wasn't shit enough for you, there's this! People getting attacked by great white sharks in a cornfield because of a shark cult led by a serial killer who's waiting for a shark god to remanifest, and draws it's energy from Stonehenge. Zero budget, awful but hilarious special effects, acting which is worse than the non-sexy parts in 80s porn...

Not near as good at the first two. It's about three quarters of the way there, but the plot with the Pope is fucking stupid, and there are other bits and pieces which just don't ring true..

This went slightly better than before, now that I actually knew all the characters beforehand, which kinda helps just a bit My initial opinion mostly stands, though, that from a pure action and spectacle standpoint, it's by far the best Phase 1 movie, but there's enough silliness and moments where the characters are forced to act dumb just for the sake of dragging things out, that I can't consider it a personal favorite. It's definitely entertaining all the way through, though, but parts of it just made me shake my head like crazy. It's probably slightly behind the first Iron-Man, for my favorite on this run so far. I already know what Civil War is about, and just based on the concept, I fully expect to absolutely loathe that movie, lol

Today was all re-watches and I got a few in:
This might just have one of the best designed ghosts of any film. Somehow knowing the twist doesn't harm this in any way. Both 4K restored versions.

Zero budget speculative fiction. Rough around the edges, but it's got a pretty decent underground alternative soundtrack. And there's a somewhat prophetic explosion near the end.

My friend's mother would tell us off for swearing (not very seriously) and say "I hope you aren't using any of those Foley words". Because yeah, this is a bit sweary.

More difficult to take in during a single sitting than the two Quiet Place movies. Had to take a break with about half of the second one to run. Very 80s, which isn't a bad thing. Another good fun film like Lethal Weapon.

Columbia Noir #4 disc 3: Pushover
Strong shades of Double Indemnity here, not just from its casting of the same male lead. But the best one of set 4 so far. Three Stooges: One of the few where the lads don't play themselves and structured a bit differently than all other Stooges shorts I've watched. Solid but not one of their best. It was the last to feature Shemp before his death.

I just upgraded my copy of the first one to blu-ray, so that led to a back to back re-watch. I really wish Part III was scheduled for sooner than 2025. Time jump confirmed maybe? The child actors will have grown a lot by then (now).

I don't normally go in for boxing pictures but this was good. Directed by John Huston who made quite a few all time favourites of mine and on whose strength I decided to check it out. Glad I did.

I love this atmospheric jewel of a film. This was impossible to watch without getting emotional the first time I saw it and it's even more so with a war currently happening in the world.

Columbia Noir #4 Disc 2: Walk East on Beacon
Really solid spy noir based around fact (actually from writings of J Edgar Hoover). Three Stooges: This is actually just a near total rehash of footage from the short Dunked in the Deep, which unideally was the short on Columbia Noir 4 disc 1. It only exists because of contractual obligations that Columbia said stood in spite of the death of Shemp.

Okay, if that's the case I may as well just focus on watching all the movies for now, up until No Way Home, then I can decide if I'm invested enough to watch all the shows (I'm guessing I will be, but probably spaced in between some other stuff.) I know for sure I'll be interested in the Loki and Winter Soldier ones, based on my enjoyment of their previous appearances I've seen.

It's not as complex as it might look. The only series you will need to have seen to keep up with the movies at this point is WandaVision, since that ties directly into the new Doctor Strange. A while ago they said you would need to see Loki season 1 as well, but that doesn't look like its actually the case. You can watch all other Phase 4 movies without worrying about the shows. Obviously when they eventually do Captain America 4, you will need to have seen The Falcon and the Winter Soldier first. Those two plus Loki and Hawkeye all follow on from characters established in Phases 1-3. But so far WandaVision is the only one that's essential for watching a movie. Moon Knight can be enjoyed at any time, even with no prior MCU knowledge, though he is supposed to at some point make the jump to the movies, at which time you will need to have seen it. You will also need to have seen Ms. Marvel, the next show coming out, prior to the release of The Marvels, but on the current slate that's still five movies away.
