My list is wide open now. Nothing set in stone, as I haven't even listened that much to the releases I do like. If I was to make a prediction, I think Symphony X will get album of the year.
I'm waiting on the Dream Theater, Mastodon, Arch/Maheos, Opeth, and Primus (alt metal!!), any of which could crack my list.

However good the albums are, I can forsee the top five of the overall 2011 albums, though maybe not in this order:
Anyone care to guess why? (ok, maybe not Road Salt 2) |

Lost respect for these archives when I saw Creed added, among other bands. Not going to be foruming here anymore. You can keep my reviews if you want.

Yep, one of the few remaining releases that I feel stands a chance of upsetting my top 5.
I'm exited for Opeth's new one too, the descriptions given of the music sound very intriguing. Also Аркона, Anubis Gate, Pharaoh and of course Dream Theater. The songs from the new Hysterica sound awesome so far as well.

Yeah, it's planned for an October release. They recently announced it's title as "Visions", along with the track list. Like Aquarius it's going to be a concept album. It's probably my most anticipated release overall actually, I'm eager to hear of they can 'do it again' so to speak.

That list of mine will definitely change, especially come September with the new Dream Theater and Opeth releases. I'm really looking forward to those.

I haven't bought much metal from this year. Six albums so far and my fav is Living With The Ancients by Blood Ceremony. My fav album so far is Politics from the Grails. Biggest disappointment is Fly From Here by Yes. More prog/pop. I was kind of expecting it but was hoping for something more. All in all it's been disappointing year for me...so far.

Current top 10, which some commentary:
Factory of Dreams - Melotronical <- absolute prog metal gem! MaYaN - Quarterpast <- keep having to revise my review for this one, it just gets better and better Saille - Irreversible Decay <- certainly worth 5* to me from a neutral PoV, but it drops a few places on this list because this is my personal top albums, and I guess I'm just not into black metal enough to want to place it higher than Cruachan, Turisas and Hell. Full list here, but sorted by review scores rather than personal preference, not that it's much different: http://www.last.fm/user/adg211288/journal/2011/01/17/45wwtf_2011_-_album_ratings_and_check_out_list

My year started out good, but I haven't gotten many albums in the past couple of months, besides Septicflesh's "The Great Mass", that have gotten close to even a 4 star rating. But, there's still the new DT and Opeth albums to look forward too.

I'm shocked that my average rating for metalcore is so high. But then I remember that most of those are BTBAM fanboy reviews and I don't write much anyway.

It is probably worth noting in regard to metalcore and myself that I have actually only rated 8 releases, so maybe I just didn't encounter the best stuff. This said, looking through the newly added releases on the sub page I don't see anything that even slightly catches my attention, although I do actually have The Defiled's Grave Times because Metal Hammer gave it away for free, but I only listened to one track from it and then shelved it.
