I thought I'd figured it out about halfway through, but I wasn't certain until right at the end.

I was shocked at the end. This is an essential example of so-called "spoiler films".

This was fucking good. I can see why it's so highly rated.

The movie equivalent of a photocopied fanzine exploring a movement that wasn't really a movement, but more a place where the misfits could fit.

Decent if a little slow and uneventful. I liked the brooding ominous atmosphere though. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1600196/

A good cast but this biographical crime movie just failed to resonate with me.

Fucking hell, this thing is all over the place! It's a collection of sketches of various lengths and qualities. And there's a shitload of unexpected nudity.

Excellent rock opera reimagining of Phantom of the Opera. Music and bad guy care of Paul Williams. My choir mistress mentioned this movie the other day, saying how Daft Punk had taken a lot of inspiration for their costumes from the movie. I can definitely see it. Good fun and good music. Surprisingly frank documentary about Chris Holmes. While W.A.S.P. might still be having delusions of grandeur, Holmes knows exactly where he fits in the world, and is quite happy to keep playing small venues to small but appreciative audiences. This doesn't shy away from anything, including Holmes' alcoholism and brief marriage to Lita Ford. There's a bit of live footage, and he still has the chops, even in his 60s. And unlike W.A.S.P., Holmes still plays "Fuck Like A Beast" live. I know which one of the two I'd prefer to see these days...

Continuing my way through the Bong Joon-Ho bo set:
I still have the black and white version of Parasite to go. I think I will watch it close to the original version so I can compare them better. Bong Joon-Ho is now easily one of my favourite directors. As good as Parasite is, I think Memories of Murder is easily his best film.

I've passed many a happy hour listening to Wax Trax! Records, and this was a happy hour and a half getting to know the story behind this record store and label.

And worse still. Yay, fun explosions and action scenes, but the story is utter balls, and it's a waste of a stellar cast.

I remember seeing the shorts for this ^^^ when I was a kid but have never seen it. Not as good as Divergent, but then the books get progressively weaker as well. Still not a bad movie though.

I believe I have found the single most mistagged movie in the whole of RYM:
So you know what that means... RYM Satire! Yakuza Law: An anthology film of three stories set in three period of Japanese history, each dealing with how the Yakuza punish those who break their internal codes. RYM Genre Police: This is just a Gangster/Crime film, not a Yakuza film. Yakuza Law: The first story takes place in the Edo period. RYM Genre Police: This is just a plain Period Drama. Jidaigekiwhat? Yakuza Law: The first story contains a bloody Samurai swordfight as the Yakuza bring down vengeance on one of their own. RYM Genre Police: Splatter must surely be a primary genre for the entire film. Also must be a full Action movie. I don't believe a single person before me who voted on this movie actually watched it.

I have no fucking idea what was happening through almost this entire movie, but I don't care. Loved it! Amazing settings and characters, great action sequences, and confusing as fuck. Best to just let it wash over me...

I have seen this one before, but it came over much better this time around thanks to better subtitling (when I first watched this, the subs were so ridiculously small that it was so difficult to read them). I also wasn't expecting this to come across as so relevant in the 2020s: if it wasn't from 2006 I'd swear this was secretly Covid satire.

Wow. This one has floored me so much that I'm breaking my rule of not giving five stars to movies after just one watch. Completely lives up to the hype.

Bong Joon-ho's debut feature. I don't think it's as accomplished as his later work, but it shows early promise. Though the dog lover in me is appalled of course.

Hard to follow, uncompelling and boring and general all round crap.
