When Day Descends is a progressive metal/rock band from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. The group started as a solo project for Dave Caswell, who wrote, recorded and released the debut album, Transcend (2005) on his own. Additional members started to be brought into the band in 2005 and in 2006 followed up the debut album with an EP, Ascension, which in style was far removed from the debut's.

When Day Descends returned to playing progressive metal by the time of the release of the second full-length, which was self-titled, in 2010.
