UK outfit SPARTA was formed in Mansfield in 1980, at first sporting the moniker Xerox. The first line-up of the band consisted of Sid Hopper (vocals), Tony Foster (guitars), Tony Warren (bass) and Gary (drums). By the time they recorded and released their first single "Fast Lane" later the same year Hopper and Gary had left though, with Karl Reders (vocals), Paul Reders (drums) and Steve Reders (guitars) joining the ranks instead.
In 1981 Sparta was one of 5 bands contributing to the compilation "Scene of the Crime", and on their own they also released the single "Tonight" the same year.
That was to be the end of Sparta as far as issuing material went though. They toiled on for 11 more years, but the closest they came to releasing any more was a contribution to a compilation album to be released by Ebony Records that never was finalized, due to the
