"Solstorm" is the self-titled debut full-length studio album by Norwegian post-metal act Solstorm. The album will be released in May 2011 by Duplicate Records. The band have been around for a couple of years and released a demo in 2009.
The music on the album is "classic" post metal with more than a few nods toward Neurosis and Cult of Luna. There are no clean vocals on this album though. The vocal style is raw and yelling hardcore styled vocals ( sometimes low and almost growling though). The pace is slow and the songs are generally crushingly heavy and gloomy. There are more atmospheric parts on the album too though which brings dynamics and variation to the sound.
While I would hardly call "Solstorm" a very original release, it´s certainly convincing both in terms of powerful production, professional songwriting and solid musicianship, therefore a 3.5 star rating is warranted.
