Beautiful woman with an angelic voice, I guess that's what Robin Beck is all about and always been, even after 22 years since her debut, 'Trouble or Nothin', she still got the look and pipes. Supported by his husband, James Christian, and also veteran musicians such as Tommy Denander, Robin returned with her latest album, 'The Great Escape', which tried to emulate the vibe and sound of the debut. The result is somewhat satisfying, quality-wise, it's almost as good as the debut but slightly inferior.
Three huge tracks here are the opening tune, 'The One', the power ballad, 'Don't Think He's Ever Comin' Home', and 'Cross My Heart' which is definitely the greatest track here. Some other splendid songs that I love are 'Inside Me', 'That All Depends' with Joe Lynn Turner, and another midtempo ballad, 'Baby I'm Not A Bitch'.
There are inconsistencies here, such as the groovy track of 'Got Me Feeling Sexy' fell short and old easily, 'The Great Escape' ballad doesn't have a strong chorus, and 'All The Rivers' which is a bland forgettable filler.
But if you want something close to her debut or perhaps the second album, this is a strong choice. Blending the AOR sensibility with uptempo melodic rock, packed with great production and of course stunning lead and background vocals, 'The Great Escape' is a very nice package and I give this a solid 80% for a job well done.
