In the lexicon of homophobic playground insults, "gaylord" is one of the more comical-sounding. Whereas other slurs retain a certain viciousness, "gaylord" just comes across as a little juvenile; you can imagine other insults being yelled at someone in the midst of a violent assault, but "gaylord" sounds like something a goofy kid sniggers at you but won't back up if you confront them about it.

Lord Gaylord and his pals probably chose that name for their antifascist black metal project precisely for that reason - to depict the bigoted parties they rail against as juvenile kids relying on absurd playground insults. This debut mini-album of theirs is very much inspired by the likes of Neckbeard Deathcamp (they even give the Neckbeards a shout-out on All Hail the New Wave), but Gaylord don't quite deliver as amusing an experience as Neckbeard Deathcamp do. It's a solid 24 minutes of well-realised black metal, but they fall back more on direct rhetorical attacks and less on biting satire than Neckbeard Deathcamp, and as a result whilst I largely agree with their lyrical stance I find the delivery somewhat less interesting.
