"Romance of Misanthropy" is the debut full-length studio album by UK blackened thrash metal act O.B.E.Y.. The album was originally self-released in 2006. It was re-released on vinyl through Demonhood Productions in August 2012. The vinyl version is limited to 500 copies and features a different cover artwork than the original version.

The music on "Romance of Misanthropy" is filthy old school blackened thrash metal. Listening to the music artists like Darkthrone, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and Bathory imidiately come to mind. There is a gritty doomy touch to the music too which is heard in tracks like "The Yelling" and "Romance of Misanthropy". The vocals are raw and shouting with a desperate edge to them. Occassionally they enter raspy black metal type vocal territory. The tracks are generally simple yet effective and they are delivered with fierce conviction.

It´s almost needless to say, but we´re not exactly dealing with groundbreaking or original sounding music. The music on "Romance of Misanthropy" is rather an ode to raw and filthy old school blackened thrash metal like it was made in the mid-eighties. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is warranted.
