The second Helstar album found them finding their feet again after the disintegration of the Burning Star lineup, but what they turn out proves to be a very acceptable, hard-edged take on US power metal which puts me in mind of what Fates Warning might have ended up sounding like if they hadn't taken a more progressive path after The Spectre Within. By 1986 this sort of sound was no longer cutting edge - particularly with thrash riding high and early death metal works pushing the envelope of extreme metal - but Helstar somehow manage to make it seem ballsy and raw anyway, which is an accomplishment in itself.

Awesome album from one of my favorite bands. Conquest and Suicidal Nightmare are two of my favorite Helstar songs.
