I've had the pleasure of seeing Maiden live several times and their caliber as a live act is not in question, and as such neither is the quality of their live albums, but I would still always pick the Live After Death DVD over the CD.

The one live album exception for me is Epica's The Classical Conspiracy because it contains material not recorded in the studio (metallized renditions of classical music).

I generally agree with you on live albums, but there are a few gems out there and I´d say Live After Death is definitely one of them.

Be interesting to hear what some of you think of this one by the way:

I thought it was like pleasant background music at best though I did actually really enjoy their rendition of To Tame a Land.

I'm not really a big fan of live albums so it's very rare that I'd choose to listen to a live take of something over the studio version. I have the Live After Death CD but it's been spun once and then shelved ever since.

Yeah I feel the same way, and the "hits" are better in the live versions on "Live After Death". Still a great album though.

I've always struggled a little bit with this one myself. It's a great album but I guess I see it as greatly overshadowed by the albums surrounding it.

"Where Eagles Dare" is such a great tune!

Not my favorite either, but there are a couple of absolute gems on this one in addition to the "hits", and that´s "To Tame a Land" and "Still Life". Especially the latter is a rather atypical Iron Maiden song.

It isn't my favorite album, but I find most of Iron Maiden's albums flawless.

I like this album, but Somewhere in Time definitely beats it for me.
