"Electric Wizard" is the debut full-length studio album by UK doom metal act Electric Wizard. The album was released through Rise Above Records in January 1995.

The music on the album is stoner/doom metal clearly influenced by early Black Sabbath but especially Cathedral comes to mind during the playing time (and not just because of the cover artwork). There´s a phychadelic touch to the music, which is especially apparent in the mellow "Mountains of Mars", so while the music is generally brick heavy and slow, it can also be laid back and stoned. We´re talking a trio format with guitars, bass and drums as the instruments of choice and a pretty "standard" stoner/doom metal vocal delivery by lead vocalist/guitarist Jus Oborn. His attitude on this album is vastly different from the raw, aggressive and distorted vocal delivery of the next couple of albums.

The album features a nice organic sound production and especially the bass has a warm organic sound and it´s placed high in the mix, which makes "Electric Wizard" quite the heavy album. "Electric Wizard" is overall a really solid debut album and if you can live with the fact that it´s more or less a Cathedral worship release you might even find it great. Personally I like the album and think a 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved but I much prefer the more personal sound they would develop on the next couple of albums.
