DRAGONFORCE Sonic Firestorm

Dragonforce is the perfect band for the 00 generation, the generation that already born with computers and cell phones.

Why I say that? Simple! Sonic Firestorm and all their discography, is like a computer joke, a Ctrl+C Ctrl+V in every well known song by every well known power metal band from the 90's, but of course, with a little 'speed' up, cause you know, it's like a picture nowadays, withouth Photoshop it's not a real picture. Way more cool if it's really fast.

It's funny how in the end of the day, great 70's musicians like Ritchie Blackmore turn out to be the 80's Yngwie Malmsteens and they became Stratovarius and Gamma Rays in the 90's and were followed by Dragonforce in 00's.

It would be really funny if it wouldn't really tragic.

A great surprise! I wasn't expecting that much of a first record from an unknown band.

7 Months, released back in 2001 is full of good moments, good compositions and good tones in the instruments (let down of 9 in 10 first records in the Progressive World), and I liked a lot of Joe Booe vocals.

The record is full of influences, but the good part is that they are not copying anyone. But sometimes they sounds like the swedish band A.C.T and maybe a little bit of Journey.

I've downloaded thie record for free on they Jamendo profile, I tried to find the link, but couldn't, can't say if they erased it or not. But you can listen their both records on the Bandcamp page the band have and you can buy both records for $5 each. (7months.bandcamp.com/).

Highlights: New Age, Change and Say Goodbye.

METALLICA The Big 4: Live from Sofia, Bulgaria

I'm reviewing this as a Metallica release cause, well, it seems like one Metallica release with 3 good guests (not trying to bash the other bands, not at all, you'll see on the review).

Anthrax: Great show full of energy, you can see the joy on the band members faces, also, Joey Belladonna vocals are pretty in shape, specially for a 50 years old man. The fact all of them are using the same t-shirt is very nice, shows the unity of the band, no egos involved, one for all, all for one and a good metal show. Rate: 4

Megadeth: Dave gathered great musicians, they're not really new (but sounds as a one man band with guests). Guitars and bass (David Ellefson is one of the great metal bassists ever) are great. But what the f**k is his voice here? What Dave's trying to do with all that falsettos? Is a pain to watch him singing. And he seems worried and nervous the whole show. I never really watched Megadeth live, so I can't say if he's always been like that. Rate: 3

Slayer: The band hit the stage and their hardcore/thrash/metal fast sound comes right to your face. Kerry King accessories (braces and chains) are a little too much on my opinion, but so are the Jeff Hanneman boots xD But their guitars models are very cool. I do like Slayer and they were the one I wanted to see most, but on stage they look like a prog/hardcore/thrash act, cause it looks like the same song over and over. But still, they have great energy, still 'angry' after all this time and Tom Araya's voice still great. Rate: 4

Before Metallica hit the stage a couple of interviews about the Dio death, all of those guys are fans, for sure.

Metallica: Of course they are the 'big brother' here, playing doubled amount of time than the other bands. And you can say whatever you want to say, but few bands can put up a show like these guys do. They made every penny worth. And James Hetfield is singing better than ever, and in a crooner kinda of microphone xD Trujillo is always a fun scene, walking like a 10 pound Gorilla on stage. And I'm sure I'll never like Lars drumming. And every days that passes one idea comes to my mind stronger and stronger, I really would like to see a James solo album, he would do some serious good thing alone, for sure. But, they'll not have a bigger rate for me, cause of one thing, the show IT IS great, but it's the same show over and over the past 2 tours, same songs, same sequence and even James using the same words with the audience. Rate: 4

All in all, it's worth to watch, with a beer on your side will be even better, even if you do not drink (like myself) xD

METALLICA Lulu (with Lou Reed)

People are funny, really funny. The ones called 'trolls' are all over the internet. You can't make anything different cause they'll complain, but if you release the same record every year... they'll complain as well.

I've been never a Metallica fan, always thought Load better than the Black Album, ...And Justice For All better than Master Of Puppets and despite the fact I don't like it, I do understand St. Anger. Never been a Lou Reed fan as well, just heard the 1972's Transformer and I don't like Velvet Underground, yeah, maybe I'm not the best one to listen Lulu, but, who cares?!?

What made me listen this record, that is still available for streaming (www.loureedmetallica.com/listen-to-lulu.php) was the fact that something different was being made on our tired musical world.

For me, the only thing that is really awfull in Lulu are the drums being beated by Lars, but, at this point, everybody is used already to his terrible drums.

Some of the songs here are quite too long and James definitely had to sing more cause he have a very good voice and Lou sounds too tired for me (maybe the years are being really heavy on him). Metallica at the end brought some very good riffs and great melodies, but, really, nothing really outstanding, fantastic or original.

The album as a whole, is very experimental, and if you open your head, and really stop to listen it, not just play it as a soundtrack while you 'troll' someone on Facebook or Twitter, it's possible to find a lot of good moments, even not being an album for all moments But of course, the silly Metallica fans that will eternally have 15 years old (even if they're 40) will not do that. They'll just say it's the wors thing ever. Maybe the Lou Reed fans get it.

CLAUSTROFOBIA Claustrofobia

First album of this brazilian band.

I was expecting a bad production here, but no, it's quite a good production for an independent release and the first of a band. As usual, the only bad point in the recording is the drums sound, which, I'm used to it, drums it's hard to get a good sound, at least it seems like that.

The highlight on the record are the vocals by Marcus D´Angelo who also plays guitar.

The sound in this first record, released in 2000 is pretty much based on the Sepultura's Max Cavalera era. In fact, A LOT of their sound can be found in here. Some Korzus as well, including Marcello Pompeu from Korzus, as a special guest on one track.

Vocals both in english and portuguese, a good combination, some feeling, some technic.

It was the first album I've heard from the band, and I'm looking forward to listen the other ones, cause if they follow the same path, with a better production and get rid from all that Sepultura background, the next records must be very very good.
