In 1994, frontman Teemu Kautonen (ex-Darkwoods My Betrothed) formed a concept group of a dark, folkish type metal with band members Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) and Sami Vänskä (bassist). After their first demo, "Där Svanar Flyger", they were offered a deal with Solistitium. Their next album was "A Bard's Tale", which featured the female vocals of Suvi, with the addition Tapio Wilska (latter, ex-Lyijykomppania). Their logo was drawn by H'grimnir (Helheim). In '97, their LAST album to be, was entitled, "Chaos Without Theory". Teemu Kautonen started the band originally as a side-project of Darkwoods My Betrothed. After two albums and a demo the band split up, but reformed after several years under the name Nattvind.
