UMUR
Imperial Doom is the debut full-length studio album by American death metal act Monstrosity. The album was released by Nuclear Blast Records in May 1992. Monstrosity is probably mostly known for housing present Cannibal Corpse vocalist George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher who left the band to join Cannibal Corpse after a couple of albums. Monstrosity is the brainchild of drummer Lee Harrison who has soldiered on through various lineup changes and other obsticles through the years.
The music on Imperial Doom is classic US death metal. Technically well played and brutal. The album contains 9 tracks and is over in 35:08 minutes. With a short playing time like that it shouldn´t be a problem keeping my attention, but the songs generally don´t stand out from each other and even though I´ve had Imperial Doom since it was released my LP isn´t very worn and that´s always a bad sign. The production isn´t the most powerful either and I partially blame the sound for my lack of interest in the album.
While Imperial Doom isn´t really an album I listen to very often, it´s still a good quality US death metal album with great musicianship and a 3 star rating is deserved. I´m not sure I agree about the classic status that this album has in some circles but then again it isn´t that bad. Just a bit average for the genre. BTW check out the very colourful Dan Seagrave artwork. I just love his work.
