Kotipelto is the heavy/power metal solo project of Timo Kotipelto, Stratovarius's current singer.

Timo Kotipelto (born March 15, 1969) is the vocalist of the Finnish power metal band Stratovarius. He studied vocals at the pop/jazz conservatory in Helsinki, briefly singing for an amateur cover band named Filthy Asses. In summer of 1994, he applied to Stratovarius. In late 2003, Kotipelto split from Stratovarius after intra-band disagreements, notably with guitarist Timo Tolkki. After much turmoil throughout 2004, he rejoined the band in January 2005.

So far he has released three albums: "Waiting For The Dawn, "Coldness" and the last one, released 20th April 2007, "Serenity".

Windhawk

Finnish based band Kotipelto looks back in time for inspiration for this album.

Most tracks seems clearly inspired by mid 80's AOR, as well as melodic metal acts like Ozzy Osbourne. On a couple of tracks influences from Iron Maiden and Helloween are heard as well, especially on opener Once Upon a Time.

Melodic metal with catchy chorus lines is the thing here, but with the guitars mixed to dominate the soundscape; giving the music a slightly compressed and modern sound.

Well performed music; and worthwhile checking out for fans of melodic metal and heavy AOR. Especially those fond of the 80's variety of the former should find this effort to be of interest.
