The James Gang was formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1966 and played locally in northeast Ohio with local legendary guitarist Glen Swartz. 1968, guitarist/vocalist Joe Walsh replaced Schwartz who lef tto go to California and formed Pacific, Gas And Electric, a fantastic blues-rock band. The James Gang then became a power trio and released the album,'Yer' Album' in 1969. It was the next release, 'The James Gang Rides Again' that spawned some interest in the band with the hit single, "Funk #49".
Two more albums followed and Walsh left the band to go solo and was replaced by Tommy Bolin from the blues based hard rock band, Zephyr and stuck around for two albums and left to join up with Deep Purple in 1975. With a new line up the band released two more albums that went unnoticed and called it quits
