The Prestige is the 8th full-length studio album by Danish death metal act Illdisposed. The album was released in March 2008 by AFM Records. After two albums on Roadrunner Records the band changed labels for the release of The Prestige.
The music on the album pretty much continues the melodic death metal style of the two predecessors. The trademark groove and brutal growling vocals are still present in the band´s sound and just as on the predecessors lead vocalist Bo Summer also performs higher pitched raspy vocals. Compared to 1-800 Vindication (2004) and Burn Me Wicked (2006), the melodeath elements are not as dominant on this album and The Prestige is generally a bit more brutal than those two albums. Unfortunately the songs are not particularly strong. The material is actually a bit average to these ears and while both production and musicianship is strong the album comes off a bit mediocre compared to the band´s best efforts.
The Prestige is as such a good melodic death metal album but lacks tracks that stand out from the rest. A 3 star rating is deserved.
