With guitarist/vocalist John DuCann leaving halfway through the recording of Atomic Rooster's In Hearing Of..., which there is a few rumours on the reasons why, he and drummer Paul Hammond, also from Atomic Rooster joined up with Paul Gustafson who was in the heavy prog/hard rock band Quartermass and released thier excellent self-titled debut in late 1970 and vocalist Harry Shaw.
The foursome begun recording under the name of Daemon, hoping to get the rights of the name, Atomic Rooster, but it was rewarded to Vincent Crane, only to change it to Bullet but again had to change the name to Hard Stuff as a result of legal actions from a US band with the same name before the release of the album, Bulletproof in 1972 on Deep Purple's label, Purple Records. Somewhere, some why Harry Shaw got lost in the mix and is given no credit on the album.
