Well...if the new Psychotic Waltz doesn´t come out in 2013, that´s the 2014 release I´m mostly looking forward to.

don't know much about who's gonna release anything next year
a new Vanden Plas next year? don't expect much, I found their last album pretty boring, their worst.

I loved Vanden Plas' last album, myself.
The lyrics were a bit cheesy on the content side, but the music was awesome.

I already received a few 2014 releases in promo form. I've heard the first two so far and reviewed the first one already:

I didn't really wait for it, but if I knew it was going to be that good, I'd certainly wait for the new Behemoth. Their best, easily. I have never been a fan but I may become one now.

Tool--(Not even sure if it'll be 2014 at this point, but hey.)
Animals as Leaders--(Not sure if it's been named.)
Cynic--Kindly Bent to Free Us (I'm more curious about this one, since the two tracks on Youtube haven't really impressed me. Maybe the rest will be different. )
Mastodon--(Not sure if it's been named.)
And I think Opeth and Beardfish are working on albums, though they probably won't be out this year.

Anticipating:
Entombed - Back To The Front Cormorant - Earth Diver Agalloch - The Serpent & The Sphere Triptykon - Melana Chasmata Scar Symmetry - The Singularity: Phase 1 Elvenking - The Pagan Manifesto Sigh - Graveward At The Gates - At War With Reality Wintersun - Time II Origin - Omnipresent Empyrium - The Turn of the Tides Godflesh - A World Lit By Fire Mastodon - Once More Round The Sun New Blind Guardian New Myrath New Tool

I've only gotten 6 2014 releases so far.
Alcest - Shelter (3.5/5) Iced Earth - Plagues Of Babylon (3.5/5) Within Temptation - Hydra (4/5) Vanden Plas - Chronicles pt.1 (4/5) Vanishing Point - Distant Is The Sun (4/5) Sonata Arctica - Pariah's Child (3/5 based on one listen so far)
Nothing that just bowls me over but still, some solid releases so far.
The most disappointing being SA. They promised a return to their earlier style, and the first song on the album delivered. The rest...well, there are some good songs in there, but more like their progressive Unia/Days Of Grey era stuff, and 2 songs that are stinkers, but overall it's not bad...

Is the Alcest album metal at all? I had heard they were moving completely away from black metal

Someone should start a 2014 music thread, or is April too early?
I generally look forward to DTguitarfan's posts/reviews, but I haven't seen him on here lately...

I was thinking it was getting around that time to start a best of 2014 so far type thread. I don't think April is too early. I started last year's 2013 in metal thread in March. If you want to start one go ahead, otherwise I'll most likely do one myself at some point.
dtguitarfan doesn't get around here much lately, but you can still follow him via RYM. Although I haven't seen him review much lately he has commentary on his already 68 albums long 2014 list: https://rateyourmusic.com/~dtguitarfan

ANYONE ELSE LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS? I KNOW I AM EVEN THOUGH IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE ELECTRIC AGE CAME OUT TOO LONG AGO. JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS.

Yep I´m looking forward to that one too. Overkill have consistenly been putting out albums since their inception, so it´s no surprise that "White Devil Armory" is released relatively close to the release of "Electric Age". While I´m not equally fond of each and every album they´ve released, they have some killer albums in their discography. Including the last two. Horrorscope is my favorite though.

I just picked up:
Teramaze - Esoteric Symbolism
Delain - The Human Contradiction
I must say, the Teramaze is probably my album of 2014 so far, killer stuff. Excellent riffing from the guitarist. Prog metal but not the shredding prog metal like Dream Theater/Circus Maximus/Seventh Wonder/etc. More like heavy on the riffs, clean singing (no cookie monster vox ) and some short n' sweet solos.
Taken as a whole, some of the songs start to sound alike, which would lead me to not give it a 5-star rating, probably a 4.5, but an excellent album none the less.
Delain's album is probably their best yet, too. Heavier than 'We Are The Others', yet still somewhat a companion album to that one. Let's face it, Delain will never satisfy the fans of brutal metal. But for what Delain are, this album is pretty darned good.

I know this isn't metal related, but I am so psyched for Pink Floyd's 'The Endless River' First album in 20 years!

I'm excited for it as well
As far as metal goes I'm really looking forward to hearing Opeth's new album 'Pale Communion' I loved Heritage, and from what I heard with 'Cusp of Eternity' It sounded somewhat similar.

I'm afriad I'd have to listen to Opeth before Their new album. Too busy being introduced to IQ, King Crimson, and Tool all at once.

Well when you start listening to Opeth, I would suggest starting with Ghost Reveries, Heretiage, Still-Life, or Watershed.

Anyone who knows what is happening with a new Psychotic Waltz album? I thought we would get a new one in 2014, but apparently that wasn´t to be.
