Massive website upgrade happened Oct. 5, 2013

Most of this upgrade fix a hidden issue that was causing us problem with Google indexing the site and penalised us in the search ranking, thus dropping our traffic from 5000/day (last year) to around 1000 now.

We may have the time to fix the ADD VIDEO feature too in the next hours / day.

Please report bugs here for now.

Sorry if they occur but we'll take care of them quickly

I lost a review due to a "runtime error" that appeared after clicking on the "publish" button. I couldn't go back to the edit review page. I want two hours of my life back

Good to know you upgraded the site, though Thumbs Up Does that mean the spamflood's over?

Sorry about your review lost, please consider writing your reviews previously in a text editor on your computer to prevent this in the future, we never know.

We only upgraded the website (discography part), the forum engine is next on the list of upgrades, hopefully forum spamming is in better control now ?!

Add Video feature is finally back again Thumbs Up (accessible via Artist page / Add Video in context menu).

The updated feature is more flexible than before. You can add any video you want to. First, You have to search on YouTube web site and copy/paste the YouTube video URL in the input textbox on MMA add video page.

If any problem, report bugs here.

I can finally change artist images without a generic error page! Clap

@M@x, forum spamming has been better since we changed the new users system that I told you about via Facebook. I see the upgrade is live now so hopefully we can return to the proper system.

Thumbs Up This is much more useful than the old system. Nice one.

Update: one bug related to this, when an artist has no videos a message to this effect appears in the video section of the profile:

No SEDULITY online videos available. Search and add one now.

The search and add one link doesn't work. Example:  http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/404.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/sedulity/add-video.aspx" rel="nofollow - http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/404.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/sedulity/add-video.aspx

A bug: The latest three movie reviews are shown on every band site under the band's album reviews:

...

And another, I get this when I try uploading a screenshot I took of it:

500 - Internal server error.

There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

File Manager's back but the upload folder is empty even though I had my avatar - among other things - there. Also, the icon of the forum page is a bunch of colorful squares instead of the usual MMA icon.

Nice upgrade, M@x and graphix! Smile

One bug I noticed -- on every artist page, even if the band in question has released no DVD's, there are reviews for other bands appearing under the "Movies Reviews" section.  A band that I just added ( http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/artist/averse-concept" rel="nofollow - http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/artist/averse-concept ) has reviews for DVD's by Dream Theater and Tool appearing under this heading.

Also, you will notice that all pages URLs / addresses has been updated.

Example : www.metalmusicarchives.com/metallica.aspx is now www.metalmusicarchives.com/artist/metallica

Old links should work and redirect the browser to the new address names.

It should be member/email activation. If the forum upgrade does what it says on the tin, known spambot IP's and emails should be automatically banned now.

I just changed it myself, we need to test run it to know.

This is great news. Unfortunately I haven´t been and won´t be able to contribute in finding bugs right now. A few days ago my Family and I moved into our new house, so lots of unpacking to do...among other Things. I´ll contribute as soon as I can...Oh and I don´t have internet either for at least a week. So I´ll only be on at Work.

We never had a guest account before, and this account has posts attached to it that pre-date it's creation. I have a horrible feeling that this has shown up to catch any orphaned posts due to the original account being deleted. I think one or possible more than one legit member was deleted.

There's an issue with the top albums list, it's different when you go http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/topalbums.aspx?lstReleaseTypes=1" rel="nofollow - here  compared to what appears across the site. Note the Haken album in 3rd by following the link (which is where it was a few days ago, as if the bigger list has not updated).

The Front page MMA TOP 5 now only includes album released before 2012 (2011 and before)

to prevent new releases from gaining top places

I've added a mention about this.

I have actually long had thoughts on how the top lists are decided, including those on the sub genre pages. Perhaps instead of doing it by year it could be decided by the number of ratings?

An example, in folk metal an album with only six ratings is in the top 10:  http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/subgenre/folk-metal" rel="nofollow - http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/subgenre/folk-metal

I personally think the album in question is a masterpiece that deserves to be there, but I also think it would make a more credible list if there was a bare minimum of ratings before a release got considered for inclusion there.

Others subs have albums with even less ratings appearing in top lists.

I agree that the top 5 list should be decided by the number of ratings. I'd say 50 ratings would be fair for now.

mailto:m@x" rel="nofollow - m@x - just want to add my thanks to those of everyone else.

Just a couple of small things - when I first joined as an S/C I started off by amending every album that didn't have a year against it by using the lists provided fromthe 'Albums - No Year' section. It is still showing as 129 albums with no year, but when I go through the sub genre listings I can't find any. Secondly, I can't find how to amend my profile - I wanted to see if the avatar upload issue had been resolved so that I could use the same one as on PMA, but even though I am logged in on both the webpage and the forum it just shows me my normal public listing as opposed to anything I can edit.

I liked the old system where only topics with new posts were bolded. Now it's more difficult to know what's new, especially since the New Posts thingy on the upper right doesn't really work like I think it should. When I come on the forum and click on the New Posts link, it says there are no new posts since your last visit 1 second ago. This all-bold problem made me use the new posts option for the first time, so I don't know if it has ever worked any better.

I can go for 30 for the total list.

Can you put a smaller limit of 10 or so on each sub-genre's list that appears on the genre page to avoid situations like the one in Grindcore where the third highest album only has 3 ratings?

By the way Haken is still #1 even taking the average default values.  http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/topalbums.aspx?lstReleaseTypes=1" rel="nofollow - http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/topalbums.aspx?lstReleaseTypes=1

Just thought of something that still needs fixing, the new site interactions panel. It started only showing review shouts a long time ago, when it used to do more including artist and member profiles, videos and mp3s.

I can't without quite complex programming set the minimal n_ratings for grindcore only.

We are going to live with it -- or asked members to rate / reviews more this sub-genre

or.... remove this subgenre Confused

I didn't mean for grindcore only, but all subs. Can you do it like that?

1 album with more than 10 ratings in the top genre 'grindcore' ;-(

What do you think ?

hmm, I don't think people can listen to enough grindcore for this idea to work. Perhaps down the line this could be reconsidered?

It just seems a bit ridiculous to read through a sub-genre bio and then get to the top 12 albums section and see releases only have a few ratings. Grindcore was the case I used as it had an album with only three ratings in 3rd but it's a problem with most of the not so popular subs such as gothic and folk. But I guess if we could get people rating more this problem might simply fix itself.

One of our users have reported a problem with his account. He can´t log into the forum anymore and he can´t change his username either (and I can´t change it, or mine if I wanted to, either). His user profile is here: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=29164" rel="nofollow - http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=29164
It´s probably caused by the accent in his username right?
Can we help him out, so he can get access to the forum Again?

There's an issue with certain special characters on the forum posts as well. Old ones only it seems, not new ones. I'm not sure why that would be?

You could ask if the user minds having his user name changed and then set that up for it. Just remember you can only change a user name by going though the admin panel, not the normal edit member options used for suspensions.

Oh I didn´t know that I couldn´t change usernames in the edit user panel. Shouldn´t people be allowed to change their own username if they want to? I don´t really see a need for admin action every time someone want´s his username changed.

I understand this might be the solution in this case, but I´m speaking in more general terms.

Perhaps, but you'll always get a few who'll be changing their user name so much that it'll get confusing.

Here's something that's been buggin' me for a while and i hope this is the right place to post this.

The MMA and JMA sites are clearly more up to date in many ways, but i find it irritating with one little thing. On PA i can go to my page and all my reviews are in CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER so that if i need to edit the latest it is on top. AND there is also a feature to make them alphabetical and also by rating. Why did this not make it to MMA? It is SOOOO helpful especially when i've drunken too much beer and can't figure it out!

Just wonderin'. If this is easy to fix then please do so!

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Wink
