Two parts of the States were death metal was exceptionally large. Which one is/was better?

New York bands:

Suffocation:

Incantation:

Immolation:

Cannibal Corpse:

Florida bands:

Death:

Morbid Angel:

Obituary:

Deicide:

Great poll. I think I like the Florida style of death metal better, but those New York bands are in much better shape then their Florida counterparts these days. People can talk about how great Death's discography is, but Suffocation has remained remarkably consistent over the years, for example. Tough call!

I can�t decide. I absolutely adore US death metal from the late eighties/early- to mid nineties. One of my favorite genres of music. They actually sound like a mix of the Florida and the New York scene to my ears though:

I saw them on tour with Bolt Thrower and Cemetary in 1995 but I don�t really remember anything from their show.

Good point. Though I'd take Immolation's first two or Incantation's MToN and Diabolical Conquest over the entire discography of Death or Deicide. And Immolation, Incantation, Suffocation, and even Cannibal Corpse are a lot more consistently good. I can't say the same thing about bands like Deicide, Obituary, or Massacre.

New York it is.

They're in Pennsylvania now, but they were from New York in the beginning when they put out their most popular albums.
