the new version (called "legacy edition") of opeths extraordinary magnum opus blackwater park is out now. containing a bonus dvd (w/ documentary and album in 5.0 (!) surround sound), and new art & packaging, what do you think?

I was quite disappointed by Blackwater Park when i bought it (and still am), having pretty high expectations because of many very positive reviews.
No way I'm going to get it again, though the documentary might be interesting.

The old one is enough for me. Plus, I'd rather spend my money on music I don't have instead of owning two copies of the same album. Besides, I have a lot of other musical priorities first.

I already own it, and I think that's good enough for me. I think BWP is a masterpiece, but there is so much music I want before I buy an album that I already have. I am interested in the documentary though...

OMG I had no idea this was coming out/came out. I have the newer reissue of "Still Life" that features a 5.0 mix which sounds EXCELLENT. If this is gonna sound similar to that, hell yeah I'm gonna get it!

Same with Jeff - I'd love the 5.1 remaster, but since I already have the regular CD, that'll do for me, I really don't want to pay for the same thing twice. If they had a stand alone DVD-A in 5.1 I'd buy it though.

This. No matter how good a piece of music is, I won't spend money on a new copy of it.

Hey JoelSmile

I'd love to have BWP in surround sound, but I don't know about buying the same album again. I might consider a standalone DVDA release as well, though. That doco on the new edition sure is tempting though...

I purchased Blackwater Park for $5 and I wouldn't pay anymore for it, let alone buy the legacy edition.

Also, I say this everytime Opeth gets brought up: Back to Times of Splendor>>>>Anything Opeth ever did Tongue

Woah, comparing Opeth and Dissilusion is weird, dude. Back to Times of Splendor is one of the greatest extreme prog metal records of all time,  but so is Still Life (or Ghost Reveries Tongue). And Mikael owns Schmidt - scientific fact Wink.

Both bands are pretty awesome, no use comparing them.

And I'm not buying the legacy edition any time soon. Love Blackwater Park, but I already got a copy at home.

I've liked the previous album documentaries they've released, so I'm very interested in this too as BP is my favourite Opeth album. That would be the only reason for buying this version as I don't have a surround sound system and the one bonus live track wasn't too brilliant. had some voice problems, otherwise it was good.

I'd take a band who only ever released one classic album (Disillusion) over a band who consistently released average albums (Opeth in my opinion).

Pretty rare for me to buy an album I already have. There's not enough incentive to shell out again seen as how I don't have a decent 5.1 system.

I have been very pleased with the Still Life re-issue so I'll also buy this one again. I'll just wait another year or two till the price drops below 12.00

This was my fifth copy of BWP. 1 on vinyl, the new one, two different pressings of the 2CD one, and one of the 1CD versions.

I like owning and listening to to the original album, with no bonus tracks or such.
