Lemmy formed the Rockin' Vicars just to annoy his old man, who was a Priest...

The origins of metal in 1964 - forget The Kinks!

Great bass player, love his work with Sam Gopal, Hawkwind and Motorhead.

a lot of it has to do with his choice of bass...  a Rickenbacker in good hands is like icing on the cake haha.

I'm guessing, but haven't read any direct confirmation, that he also picked up a lot of knowledge about Marshall amps when he worked as a roadie for Hendrix - it's well documented that Hendrix's roadies were trained in the maintenance of these amps.

Lemmy had two heavily modified JMPs that he named No Remorse and Murder One. I've read that he actually had two pairs of amps, and that a 3rd was called Killer - but have so far been unable to find out the name of the 4th.

...anyway, even with a Ricky, Lemmy had a massively distinctive sound, probably due to his high-middle settings - he turned the treble and bass right down and the middle right up, with high volume and presence  to enable the sound to cut through.

His penchant for power chords and fluid chormatic/pentatonic runs are also a strong stylistic signature - it's a great sound, and I still dream of owning a Ricky so I can emulate it Rawks

Then why revive an almost three year old thread to bring it up in the first place?
