These are the bands of my early teenage years that started my lifelong love of metal.  Which of these is your favorite from this group?

.... I voted DEF LEPPARD but , I can't say sincerly which one I prefered the most between

  • Def Leppard
  • Bon Jovi
  • Motley Crue

So many memories.....

My first rock/metal live show was Motley Crue, Dr. Feelgood tour, Qubec City (CANADA) in 1990, I was 13.

I missed that one to see Monsters of Rock with Whitesnake / Skid Row / Great White / and some no-name band at Alpine Valley about 3 months before SRV was killed leaving his gig there (summer 1990 - wow)

It was a tough choice between Van Halen and Dokken, but Dokken got my vote in the end.

My first concert was the summer of 1988 Monsters of Rock tour.  Van Halen - Metallica - Scorpions - Dokken - Kingdom Come.  The second was David Lee Roth with Poison as the opening act.

I would have killed to see either of those at the time. Though Metallica for Justice with Queensryche for Mindcrime opening may have been the king of all the metal tours at that point.

They were pretty awesome shows.  I'd love to be able to go back in time and attend again.  The memory has faded over the years.  It would be wonderful to have a copy of those shows in order to revisit them.

Definately Motley Crue!  After all these years, they STILL go off at clubs!

Dr Feelgood and Kickstart my Heart can still get everyone on the dance floor!   Clap

Between Van Halen and Def Leppard. Saw them both in the eighties.Van Halen in 1980 on the "Women And Children First" tour and later maybe around 1983 or so Def Lappard.Queensryche opened for them.

Played Van Halen more than any of the others.

Saw the Leppards on the "On through the night" tour in February 1980, jeez I'm old! LOL

I saw Def Leppard once.  It was either on a later Hysteria tour or the Adrenalize tour, I don't recall for sure.  I placed my vote for Van Halen as well.  I've seen them 3 or 4 times over the years plus seeing David Lee Roth solo the one time.

Out of this list, I only saw Dokken and Twisted Sister. The former were good, but not that impressive, while the Sisters were a hoot. I will never forget Dee Snider getting the whole Castle Donington crowd in 1983 to chant 'sick motherf*****s* along with himLOL.

Twisted Sister would have been a fun band to see.  I have their Live at Hammersmith album but I haven't seen them live.  I already mentioned seeing Poison, Dokken, Def Leppard and Van Halen.  The only other band that I saw on the list was Cinderella.  I saw them with two other bands; one was The Bullet Boys.  I don't remember who the other was now.  It might have been Winger or maybe Warrant.  D'Oh, I can't remember.  Edit:  I confirmed that it was Winger that was the other opening act.

Have you ever heard Dee Snyder's radio show?  I catch it every once in a while on the weekend.  It is him playing his favorite heavy metal hits.  He really is a pretty funny guy.

I put in votes for the two most over-the-top glam bands of all time:

VVI and Nitro

Oh wait...not choices. All glam fans should have at least heard these insane bands.

I'm not familiar with WI but Nitro is definitely over the top, featuring the dynamic high pitched vocals of Jim Gillette and the ridiculously fast guitar soloing of Michael Angelo Batio.

Negoba, I'm having trouble finding a reference link for WI.
Would you be able to help with that?

VVI is Vinnie Vincent Invasion (Vinnie Vincent played on Kiss' Lick it Up and wrote some of those songs)

It was definitely his band, and the guys got sick of it, and formed their own band called Slaughter.

Nitro was where shred legend Michael Angelo Batio got his start. They also had Jim Gillette who advertised vocal lessons in the music mags.

Both had moments that were so bad and over-the-top you couldn't help but love em.

And lots of insanely fast and not terribly musical shredding.

Ah, I thought that was W I not V V I.  I actually do have a Vinnie Vincent Invasion album on vinyl.  I probably haven't listened to it in close to 20 years.

Van Halen was my choice, even if they're a different generation than the rest of the groups

Search one other anomaly in that list.....

Leppard is the only non-US band.

Bon Jovi... love Sambora's style... Van Halen almost in the same place... just that they really screw up in the late 90's while the jovies are still producing... always 3 or 4 songs in each new album worth to listen to... Hail yeah to Pop Metal..!!! Rawks

loved most of them, but i would say Motley Crue, even though i don't consider them as a pop metal band but a real glam metal, especially on the "Shout" album, that's pretty heavy to be considered pop

It's one of mine as well, and my vote would go to Extreme if they were listed.

Since they aren't I'm gonna go with Van Halen. Thumbs Up

From this list Def Leppard then Bon Jovi.  But the one metal band I really loved in the 80's was Europe.
