It would probably be my age, but I always buy albums of bands who were founded before 2000 or bands/projects with artists who were also famous in the 90's or even 80's.

Which bands are your favourite newcomers of the 00's?

For me, Riverside and Volbeat are great

Between The Buried And Me springs to mind.  There's probably a few other obvious ones that I can't think of at the moment.

INDUKTI, and Deathspell Omega (if you don't count the demo EP from 1999).

Well, I'm 47.  I just never trusted Radio (Except for "specialty shows" that have come and gone and
College Radio Programs from the past), so I always trusted my gut, or read Trade Mags, and rely
heavily on my fave Internet Station).  But its always fun to see a Album Cover, review the Song
"Titles", or the Album Art and take a chance once in a while.
Their is always lots of stuff to explore in all the Sub-genres of Metal.

I suspect that you may have missed a good deal of cool stuff in the pre-2000's Wink.
. . . the "obscure stuff" takes a bit of looking into.

But heres my List of Bands from the 2000 Era.
Ready?  (These are dates from Full-Length "Releases" not when they formed):

Myrath
Andromeda (the Swedish Prog Metal Band as above)
Anubis Gate
Cloudscape
Gorod

Spiral Architect
Necrophagist
Canvas Solaris
Suspyre

Presto Ballet
Circus Maximus
Leprous

John Arch

Sphere of Souls

. . . I'm sure I'm forgetting a "few" more, I guess I have to look at my "Shopping List" and
my Collection a bit further Stern Smile.  But these are Bands I listen to.

I'll add more when the Light Bulb goes off again  (or on . . . YOUKNOWWHATIMEAN!)

Just from that list Abysmal Dawn, Star One, and Obscura both pop out at me. They're all great bands!

Animals as Leaders and Vektor immediately come to mind. Definitely already two of my favorite bands.

Lost respect for these archives when I saw Creed added, among other bands. Not going to be foruming here anymore. You can keep my reviews if you want.

Hell, I'm only 22 and my musical list is skewed to pre 2000's! Even pre 90s really!

Off the top of my head Post Metal is the obvious one since it largely became "big" in the 2000's (though roots were earlier I know).
Isis, CoL, Pelican, Russian Circles, bunch of others.

Also:
Will anyone take SoaD? Their first album was before 2000 but they really became known and eventually mainstream during the decade. They will always be one of my favorites.

Aghora is a brilliant pick! As is AAL and on that note: Cloudkicker.

Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Testament. The real Big Four of thrash metal!

OSI
Riverside
Long Distance Calling

Voyager
Subsignal
Redemption
Anubis Gate
Circus Maximus

and I'm sure there's more, I'll get back to it.

I'd have to think about the 00's, but just going by bands who's debut came out 2010 or later the clear winner for me is:

Haken

Going back ten more years, I'll get back with you...

VEKTOOOOOORRRRR!!!!

And if we count SOAD (who definitely were one of the best in the 00s) I will add Wolf as well (debut came out in 1999, but really became available in 2000).
