☆ I thought you hated everything Henry, what the hell is this?
Everything except for ponies and underage Miley Cyrus. This is a show about brightly colored semi-magical ponies who live in Ponyville in the land of Equestria, ruled with an iron (but loving hoof) by the sun goddess, Princess Celestia. Princess Celestia cares deeply about friendship and Twilight must report every week what aspect of friendship she learned about this week (don't tell anyone, but Twilight may have Asperger's Syndrome).

☆ Why should I watch this?
Because it's the only thing that makes me feel alive. Also, it is by Lauren Faust, who you may remember from Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary friends, so it is not your typical show for little girls. Also, the rest of the internet loves it and everyone loves a bandwagon!

Yeah, they did a Benny Hill segment in Ticket Master too. I thought it was just ok then, and it felt far too long the second time around. Anybody with a slight knowledge of mythology knew where it was going, stop padding out the episode with filler. The stylized giant Phoenix was nice, though.

Otherwise it was great, it's almost as if they want to create more reaction macros with the expressions. And I was happy to see all the fan art of Celestia trolling vindicated.

However, the moral was one of the most poorly thought out yet. On the surface, it was so far the moral that is probably most directly relevant to the target audience, but they were freaking out over nothing. I don't know if "Don't touch Mommy's stuff without asking because it might pretend to be broken just to fuck with you and then you will be afraid of being banished to the moon" is really a relatable message.

Interestingly, Rainbow Dash also thought she was going to be banished to the Everfree Forest for screwing up the competition in Sonic Rainboom. I assume that interacting with somepony who is sort of your mother, your ruler, and the physical incarnation of your deity would be intimidating, but somepony really needs to tell her how she is perceived by her subjects. Maybe off-camera she rules with an iron hoof of friendship? Someone was complaining online that Fluttershy should have mentioned Luna when at the end Celestia asked her where she would get such an idea, but that sounds to me like the kind of flippancy that gets you banished to the moon!

I bet it did die around the time Luna was banished, while it's not specified in MLP, the traditional life-span of a phoenix is 1000 years. Maybe all this will be resolved when Luna comes back for season 2. And some of the mystique of Celestia lies in that we really have no idea what she does besides raise the sun and send letters to Twilight.

Also, Angel did a great job as the White Rabbit.

Oh yeah, that was an interesting insert, although I think they belabored it a bit. Have some subtlety, guys, any 5 year old girl who is going to get it is going to get it almost right away.

What do you think the over under odds are of the CMC finally getting their cutie marks in next week's episode? I'm hoping they will finally resolve that plotline, but I'm afraid they won't. The CMC are steadily improving, but they're more annoying than :3, which is realistic but still annoying, and they detract from the mane cast.

I would think that Lauren would want it to be resolved because she didn't know if she was going to get a second season, but I'm not sure what marketing would think of that. On the one hand they could sell two copies of the same shitty toy, but on the other it may decrease the value of the old toys without the cutie marks. It's hard to say because in any case, Hasbro does not give a damn about the FiM toys.

And yeah, the CMC are only good when they're not alone, Stare Master is so much better than Show Stoppers. I had forgotten it, but they also re-used the sound file from Fluttershy singing the theme towards the end of Ticket Master. I guess (along with the reworking of the Yakety Sax theme/segment) we're seeing the stretching points of the budget as we reach the end of the season.

I seem to be the only one, but I'm not a big fan of that segment, even though I love Fluttershy. Maybe it's because I was overexposed to it even before I watched the show.

Well Pokemon is obviously going to have some overlap with ponies when Pokemon is also highly stylized versions of real animals. There's actually a joke about Ponyta because in the episode Feeling Pinkie Keen, Twilight Sparkle gets so angry she looks a lot like that.

Does each member of the mane cast have a somewhat hidden power? Pinkie Pie is psychic, Fluttershy can bend others to her will with her stare, and Twilight is the most powerful telekinetic we've seen so far (although I'd assume Celestia is better).

I have to say the same as Matt, except Rarity is better than Rainbow Dash. Then Big Mac, then the CMC, then Spike (everybody loves him because he's sarcastic, but I find so much of his humor painfully cliche), then Trixie, then Snips and Snails, who can die in a fire. I'd even rather have more Silver Spoon than them. Derpy is objectively the best background pony.

Her accent doesn't annoy me, but you're right that when she's in a support role, she is much less distinctive than the others. Over a Barrel was supposed to be her episode, but Pinkie and Dash still stole the show. Even though AJ with Braeburn was so :3 it hurt.

I'm placing my bets now for the relative length of the backstory sections: AJ, Twilight, Rarity, Dash, Fluttershy, Pinkie. I will be very sad if there is no tiny Rarity and Fluttershy for me.

I hadn't heard that Weird Al song before now, it's surprising how well so many of these are synched.

I saw this in the suggested videos and hadn't seen it before (although I'm sure Henry has because he's the internet). As well as it's made it is a bit weird to see Rarity sing about thinking naughty.

I'd also like to point out that under normal circumstances I'd never force myself to listen to this song. Confound these ponies.

So I'm still in mild shock after the episode. I was not a fan at all of Fluttershy's clumsy flying setting off the Sonic Rainboom which then was a pivotal moment in all their lives because everything needs to be tied together. But other than that

I have to say that I really like the idea that Pinkie's parents liking the party is only how she remembers it. Surely they would have seen the ways of the world before, and they must be too poor to afford any of those things because I can't imagine rock farming pays very well. So she just snapped and ran away to Ponyville.

And someone pointed out that Luna is not in the moon during Pinkie's story like during the pilot, so clearly she is an unreliable narrator at best, if the story even happened at all!
