Subject: Your recent Metal purchases

So I thought it'd be cool if we had a topic dedicated to discussing users recent album purchases as well as stuff like band shirts and merchandise. Today I purchased:

Aborted - The Purity of Perversion
Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Honky Reduction
Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Bestial Machinery
Arch Enemy - Burning Bridges
At the Gates - Terminal Spirit Disease
Centaurus-A - Side Effects Expected
The Crown - Deathrace King
Cryptopsy - Ungentle Exhumation
Cult of Luna - Eternal Kingdom
Darkest Hour - Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation
Emperor/Enslaved - Hordanes Land
High on Fire - Surrounded by Thieves
Immolation - Close to a World Below
Jungle Rot - What Horror Awaits
Lost Soul - Immerse in Infinity
Mayhem - Ordo Ad Chao
Nocturnus - The Key
Picture the End - They Swarm Like Locust
Sadist - Crust
Visceral Bleeding - Remnants Revived
Winds of Plague - The Great Stone War

I also purchased a Machine Head shirt when I saw the band live a few days ago.

I've gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed with Ordo Ad Chao so far. It's not terrible, but it doesn't sound all that good either.

Kayo Dot- Choirs of the Eye
Kayo Dot- Coyote
The Fall of Troy- In the Unlikely Event
Tiamat- Wildhoney

I know Kayo Dot is debatable, but they have enough metal sections to be considered an avant-garde metal band.

Fantastic purchase dude, I'd say it's my favourite Grindcore release of 2009. But to be honest I'm kinda disappointed at how they've slowed down.

Century Media are having a sale where you spend $75 and you get a free grab bag (either five shirts or ten CDs). So I spent $75 on:

Asphyx - The Last One on Earth
The Faceless - Akeldama
Gorguts - The Erosion of Sanity
In Flames - Colony
Jungle Rot - Fueled by Hate
Lost Soul - Ubermensch
Nile - Those Whom the Gods Detest
Sickening Horror - When Landscapes Bleed Backwards
Strapping Young Lad - City

And the free grab bag. Can't wait to see what I get.

I just picked up At the Gates' Slaughter of the Soul and Megadeth's Rust in Peace, since they're both classics I had yet to hear. RIP of course is great, Slaughter not so much.

I also got another replacement physical copy of Tool's Lateralus but I don't consider it metal. Wink

Well... I just preordered Periphery's new album. I'm sadly a bit disappointed by the screams I've heard so far of their new singer but I already love the band so I know I'm gonna enjoy this release when it arrives. DJENT

Diminishing Between Worlds by Decrepit Birth. I heard that it sounds like later Death mixed with Brutal Death Metal. Should be interesting.

Now, in order to keep the Metal purchases thread dedicated to our favourite genre, I think it would be a good idea to have a separate thread for everything non-metal that we have recently bought. Personally, I have no problems with seeing classical, jazz, world-music or 'other' rock CDs listed in the Metal Purchases thread, but some members might - so, this solution should make everyone happySmile.

I have therefore opened such a thread in the General Music Discussions section, and moved Lucas' post there. Please, feel free to make use of that new thread whenever you want to display your most recent non-metal findsWink!

My recent purchase is long overdue:
City

So my Century Media order came today and my grab bag contained the following albums:

In This Moment - The Dream
Andromeda - Extension of the Wish
Angel Dust - Of Human Bondage
Mercenary - The Hours That Remain
Maroon - When Worlds Colide
Octinomos - f**khole Armageddon
Sepulchral Feast: A Tribute to Sepultura
Visionaries of the Macabre, Vol. II: An Evil Elite

The Octinomos album is terrible, but the others are alright. To my suprise In This Moment are actually somewhat decent in a so bad it's good way.

It's my favourite of theirs. I first listened to it around 17 years ago (on a tape), and I am still enjoying it very much. It's brutal and technical.

Man, "Slaughter of the Soul" basically changed Swedish Death Metal and the surrounding Nordic
Countries. A VERY influencial Album, but hey, its pretty heavy stuff.
"Rust in Piece"  reinvigorated the Thrash movement into more Technical Compositions, thanks to
Marty Friedman (who I was a Fan of YEARS before that Megadeth Album came out).
Excellent choices me thinks Big smile.
Its Funny how Tool splits up the Metal and Prog Community, I think theyre both Wink.
I like'em.

My Recent Purchases (for the past few months, I dont get to spend as much as I used to
and I dont buy on-line), Anything highlighted in Blue are for donations to Progulus.com:
Prog Metal:
1. Orphaned Land- The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR
2. Stonehenge- Angelo Salutante (Used)
3. Leprous- Tall Poppy Syndrome (Used) Death Prog Metal ala' Opeth.
4. Cains Offering- Gather the Faithful (Used) Power/Prog Metal.
5. Entwined- Dancing Under Glass (Used) A rare find! A bit Dark Wave-ish
but a Male "Rough Thrash-like" voice.

Post-Prog Metal/ Wacko
1. Primus- Miscellaneous Debris (Used) Been wanting to get this for awhile,
5 remakes of unusual songs (except "Have a Cigar").

Death/Math Metal:
1. Augury- Fragmentary Evidence
2. Meshuggah- I (Used)
3. Soilwork- Figure Number Five (Used)
4. Soilwork- The Chainheart Machine (Promo)
5. Ihshan- angL (Used)

Thats it for now Smile

Other purchases around same time (if anyone cares to see it)-
Prog Rock
:
1. Karmakanic- Who's the Boss in the Factory (Used) These guys get a
bit heavy, much like Enchant.
2. Negus- Dare to Dream (Used) "Steve Negus", original Drummer of
Saga. Cool Find!
3. Saga- Generation 13 (Used)
4. Victor (Used) Alex Lifeson of Rush, 1st and only Solo Album. I dont
see it around much anymore, so I bought it to replace my "Promo" version.
5. Native Window- Debut (Used) I hate to say this, very disapointing Cry
I'm a HUGE Kansas Fan, basically its Kansas without Steve Walsh with
Bassist Billy Greer on Vocals.  This Album sounds like modern Pop
Country, with "tinges" of Prog.  I can see that Walsh is probably the moving
force behind Kansas, if Kerry Livgren isn't in the line-up.
Rock:
1. Jefferson Starship- Modern Times
Its about fricken time! I've waited for 25 Years for this to be released on
CD (I only have it on LP, and I havent had a Turn-Table for 15 YearsCry).
Some songs get a bit Proggie, and "ALIEN" is worth the whole album.

To early to say as I've only had time to listen to it once so far.  It wouldn't be too hard to top Kill, which is a solid album, but sounds weak compared to its predecessor The Wretched Spawn.

That's a sweet haul. The only thing I'm not really familiar with is Cult of Luna.

Are those all new or are some of them used copies?

Most of them are used. If I remember correctly, I believe that the Herbie Hancock was the only one that I bought new.

I have "Adrenalize" somewhere, too. It's okay, but it's perhaps a bit too poppy for my tastes.

@Stooge,

How's the new Ocean Collective album?  I'm considering buying it, but I think I'd have to have it imported.

And here's two more I just bought:

^^^^^

I like the new Ocean Collective album.  Admittedly, this is my first purchase of the band, and will definitely consider getting more in the future.  It was pretty affordable at $13.99 CDN at my local HMV store.  I was expecting it to cost a few dollars more.

Some of it is on their myspace page, but I think it's on youtube in it's entirety if you want to preview it (or spoil it depending on your point of view).

The downside is that it comes packaged is a cardboard sleeve, leaving the disc prone to scratching.  However, the album artwork is pretty cool, with the lyrics printed on what looks like tarot cards.
