If you´re completely new to the metal scene, I´d say giving the top rated albums on each sub genre page a try is the way to go.

Welcome to MMA!  I would recommend the same as others, the top albums of each sub genre on the site is a good way to familiarize yourself with the metal genre. | Welcome to MMA Elizabeth! As others have already said checking out the top albums in any sub-genres you're interested in is a good place to start. If there's any particular subs that grab your attention I'm sure we can point you in the direction of loads of great albums. |
