I am currently organising the next MMA Reviewer's Challenge. While previous challenges have been a collaborator/metal reviewer event this one is open to anyone who wants to try their hand at it. The format for this challenge is changing though. Where previously an album without reviews has been selected and everyone taking part reviews the same release, this time participants will be randomly paired and will have to select an album for each other to review. There is no guarantee that anyone will be paired with someone with a similar taste, which is part of the fun. The only rules for release selection are that it must be available as either a free legal download or on a legal streaming site like Spotify in its entirety. For this challenge you may select albums that have been previously reviewed so long as the reviewer you are paired with has not already reviewed/rated it. How you go about selecting an album for review beyond that is entirely up to you. Perhaps there is an album you love that others seem to ignore. Maybe you know something your paired reviewer will like. Or maybe you wish to see what they think of something that you know is outside of their comfort zone. You're under no obligation to share your motive for album selection. All I ask is that if you do put your name forward for this that you be a good sport and do the review, no matter if you like the album chosen for you or not. When there are enough names put forward I will announce the pairings. I'm looking for at least six so we have three pairs of reviewers, but the more the merrier. Okay, all the usual's have signed up. If anyone else signs up they'll just have to be paired with each other. Using the randomiser, the pairings are as follows: Vim Fuego & aglasshouse DippoMagoo & Warthur Nightfly & 666sharon666 adg211288 & Unitron Please PM each other ASAP with the album you are going to challenge them to review. I'd advise everyone to have a backup in mind just in case for some your your first pick is region restricted at all as we found out when the Grave Digger album was selected on a previous challenge. They'll be no set date to post your reviews this time, just title them with the usual MMA Reviewer's Challenge header but instead of a month say who you were challenged by. For example mine will be: MMA Reviewer's Challenge: Album selected by Unitron.

Yep I've taken a first listen to the album Paul picked for me. Keeping what I think a secret for now though.  I'll probably start writing after one or two more listens. |

Me and Warthur have ours set up as well. I will likely be reviewing mine sometime next week or next weekend, because right now I of course have my regular flow of promos to get done, plus my brother ordered me a sick new laptop which could come any time within the next week, so I'll want a couple days to get that set up and test it out before writing my review. |

I feel bad for running late compared to others, lol! I'm on my fifth listen on mine right now, and I like to hit around 6-8 before attempting a review, so right now I'm aiming to have it up by Tuesday or Wednesday. |

Yep, thanks for taking part everyone! Glad to see no one hated the albums they were chosen. Now for the £1 million question, did you prefer this method or the one of everyone reviewing the same album. Yeah, I greatly enjoyed the new method. Much less disruptive on the site, and it's also fun because you can come on to the site every day while it's on and there's a chance you'll see a challenge review, so that's cool. And of course the whole mystery alum thing also makes it fun. |

Yes I liked that mystery aspect of it. I liked the old method of seeing so many different opinions for the same release appear at once, but I did prefer this. It was more interesting not knowing what everyone had been chosen and I actually felt less pressure to do my review knowing I could post it whenever. I think we could do these ones more often than the other due to it not being so disruptive as well. I'm actually quite keen to do another.

| I enjoyed it best the new way too. The only downside I guess is it was less noticeable than when we all reviewed the same album and posted at the same time give or take... Certainly as has been said, less disruptive. |

Perhaps next time we should all just post links to our reviews when we post them, so that way it will be easier to find all the reviews and keep track of them. |

That's a good idea. Other than scarring Thatcher (aglasshouse) for life with the album I selected, I liked this more. I kept checking back regularly to see what was happening. Even though there was no time limit on this, all the reviews were up in a fairly short space of time, so I think that showed everyone's enthusiasm for it. |
