I love death metal but I only know a few artists... Any recommendations would be great, I don't mind if they're mainstream or obscure.

For reference, here are the death metal bands I've already listened to:
- Cannibal Corpse
- Dying Fetus
- Dethklok
- The Dark Prison Massacre
- Cheerleader Concubine

Personally I always like to start from the beginning. You don´t have to listen to every album ever released, but start with the classics. I can recommend some classic death metal artists which I think are essential listens, but I´ll let others make recommendations on the more modern stuff, because that´s usually not my poison.

US death metal bands:

Death
Autopsy
Obituary
Deicide
Morbid Angel
Cannibal Corpse
Immolation
Incantation
Suffocation

German death metal:
Atrocity (just the first two albums)
Morgoth
Fleshcrawl

Dutch death metal:
Pestilence
Gorefest
Asphyx

UK death metal:
Carcass
Napalm Death
Bolt Thrower
Benediction
Paradise Lost (just the first two albums)

Swedish death metal:
Entombed
Dismember
Unleashed
Grave
Edge of Sanity

There are of course many, many more, but if you give the above lot a listen, you´ll get a good idea of the different scenes of old school death metal. Many other countries have scenes too, but I´m not comletely wrong if I say that the scenes I have incluced above are the most important old school death metal scenes (the German one actually wasn´t that important, but I just like the three bands a lot).
