New Agalloch is okay but it seems less engaging than the two previous albums. Marrow of the Spirit is still my favourite.

I'm liking new Inter Arma quite a bit. Haven't caught a ton of metal releases this year, but a few are on my radar, including:

Scott Walker + Sunn O)))— Soused
Boris— Noise
Agalloch— The Serpent & The Sphere
Blut Aus Nord— Memoria Vetusta III: Saturnian Poetry

I'll just post a link to my full RYM list: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/DippoMagoo/dms_top__and_bottom__albums_of_2014/

Not everything there is metal, but around 80-90% of it is. It would take way too long (and too much room on the page) to simply copy over all the metal albums there. The scary thing is, I still have a few more albums to add once I give enough listens.

I'm in the process of getting my soul crushed by Scott Walker + Sunn O))) - Soused

possibly the least accessible album I've heard since Current 93 and Nurse With Wound collaborated

So far I've gotten:

Alcest - Shelter
Delain - The Human Contradiction
Distorted Harmony - Chain Reaction
Eluveitie - Origins
Epica - The Quantum Enigma
Iced Earth - Plagues Of Babylon
Sonata Arctica - Pariah's Child
Stream Of Passion - A War Of Our Own
Teramaze - Esoteric Symbolism
Vanden Plas - Chronicles Of The Immortals
Vanishing Point - Distant Is The Sun
Within Temptation - Hydra

So far, I like every single one of those albums, but not one of them would I consider a 'great' album.

Out of all of them I'd probably have to pick the Teramaze as my album of the year so far. Some very cool riffing and oh-so slightly proggy. Not much is left of their thrash-metal sound, but it's still pretty cool regular metal Smile

I love the new Within Temptation album as well, though in my personal opinion it isn't quite as good as 2011's 'The Unforgiving'.

I've got the new Opeth and the latest Insomnium on the way thru the mail, and am looking forward to the new Threshold and the new Evergrey.
