I like Lulu better than Hardwired for Disappointment, but it wasn't really a Metallica album. It was Lou Reed with Metallica as a backing band. |

Ooooh, Death Magnetic. Could be my pick of theirs. I truly burnt out their 80’s albums (and myself haha) back then, when all we listened to was Zepp, Sabbath and Metallica, stoned to the eyeballs (then I’d go home and listen to my ‘Hippie’ music 😏)
Lulu hurt. Lots. |

Yeah, as much fun as it is to make fun of him, he is a great drummer. He really redeemed himself on Hardwired. Now hopefully they don't go screw it up by making another Lulu like they did after Death Magnetic.

Lars is a buffoon, but I think he’s alright. He’s better than a lot of drummers out there. After all, he is a pioneer of sorts really.

I sure won't disagree, Charlie Benante is one of the greatest drummers of all time. All you have to do is listen to any Anthrax album. We've Come For You All is an underrated album, and What Doesn't Die has one of the most crushing drum performances out there.

This place goes through dead patches. There wouldn't be many people here disagree about Charlie vs Lars. |

I’m surprised this site isn’t ‘buzzing’ like P.A.
I’m currently on a diving holiday in Fiji (irrelevant) and I only have my iPod loaded with ANTHRAX Among The Living (relevant). A friggin’ CLASSIC if there ever was one. It never gets tired. Benante is one of the best !! What he does is just perfect in every way. His feet are fast and tight as all-fuck. Sorry, but he whips Lars. Easily. Edited by Tom Ozric - 08 Nov 2017 at 4:56pm |

It was the 5 star Contradictions Collapse review that gave it away
I fucking put that album up on a pedestal. I actually saw Meshuggah in earlier this year in March. First extreme metal gig, and I was worried I’d get crushed. Turns out I was the dodgiest cunt there - nah, not really, but it was a great crowd with mind-blowing ( boggling ) music. I enjoyed it immensely. And walking around the city afterwards, seeing dudes in their band t-shirts and giving / receiving lots of nods of approval is a great feeling. Metal is AMAZING !!! |

^I'm always happy to recommend great music to people, that's one of the reasons I write reviews apart from my own enjoyment of writing them.

Contradictions Collapse is probably my least favorite Meshuggah album, but that´s because I favor the more groove based style they introduced on Destroy Erase Improve over the úber technical style on CC.
Divine Intervention is a great album to my ears to, but it doesn´t beat the unholy Trinity of albums which came directly before it. Those are the peak albums of Slayer´s career IMO.

No more love for Divine Intervention ?? Love EVERY track on it. Only other album of theirs where every track is utterly engaging is Hell Awaits. I haven’t heard them all though.
Fave Thrash album of all time (I’ve heard only a fraction of what’s out there, really) is MESHUGGAH - Contradictions Collapse. Insanely BRILLIANT !! |

^ YAY !! I did read that
I’m surprised the album usually gets a bad rap. I wouldn’t change a thing on it. It’s perfect. Indeed, Bostaph blows me away. One thing though - and it’s an obvious thing - Araya’s bass. It does peep through now and then, but is often lost in the mix. I can tell though he is a great player. He is superb on Hell Awaits, that’s for sure. |

Reign In Blood has always been my favourite but Divine Intervention is still a very good album. Haven't played it in ages - must sort that.

^YES, YES, YES!
I'm so glad to finally see someone else who loves that album as much as I do. I completely agree about the production, it makes it sound so crushing and aggressive. "Killing Fields" is one of the greatest drum performances I've ever heard. Araya sounds so menacing on "Serenity in Murder", I could go on and on. If you're curious, I wrote a review of it while ago: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/review/divine-intervention/310551
