Recommend bands that are absolutely unique and impossible to classify.

Well Ive actually always thought of Katatonia that way. Not their first couple of albums which can be labelled doom/death, but their later stuff really escapes a valid genre label IMO.

Im not sure this is what you meant, but there it isLOL

Haha, well, you're actually right, Katatonia is indeed unique. Not avant-garde, not that eclectic but somehow unique. Great example

I can think of lots that are unique, but as far as "unclassifiable" goes, none that I would consider metal.  Maybe Zu.

I knew you would mention Zu. It's a good recommendation as far as unique metal is concerned.

I would also mention Grayceon as a less avant-garde but still unique band. Some people tag them with an accurate but rather unofficial term "chamber metal". Some would say it's modern prog metal. I'd say it's a unique cello metal

I havent heard the last Burzum album but isnt the music still rooted in black metal of some sort?

Yes but "Umskiptar"'s quite unique (and controversial).
And I guess there're actually no bands impossible to classify. If it's so different people would tag "Avant-garde Metal" or "Experimental Rock" or something.
I do listen to a lot of weird bands recently, maybe you would like to try out Zweizz & Joey Hopkins and Pryapisme, especially the new Pryapisme video.Evil Smile

Ive been listening to this one lately:
SUPURATION - The Cube cover

...I guess it doesnt completely escape catagorization, but it is quite an unusual death metal release.

Devil Doll perhaps? A eccentric mix of prog rock, prog metal, carnival-esque instrumentation, choirs, bizarre vocalisations, horror movie / war footage sampling. Brilliant but obscure.
