"Spider-Man" (1977)

Science dork Peter Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider during an experiment and gains its powers and abilities. Those skills come in handy when New York is terrorized by a mysterious hypnotist who makes ordinary citizens commit crimes via mind control.

I hadn't seen this cheap-n-cheesy pilot film for the short lived '70s Spidey TV series since I was a kid and it was, as I expected, entertainingly awful. No wonder the show didn't last long.

Worth watching mainly for the historical value, and the hilarious '70s fashions and funk-tastic disco music soundtrack.

"Generation X" (1996) A cheap made-for-TV movie based on the youngest members of the X-Men franchise, battling a super villain who controls people's minds by entering their dreams. This was intended to be the pilot to a regular series but thankfully it didn't catch on.

"Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore" (2010) - it was my 9 year old's turn to pick a movie (haha). The cat & dog spies from the first movie must put aside their differences and fight against a common enemy - a cat whose plans for world domination threaten both species (yikes)! Goofy kid stuff.

"The Protector" (1985)
Two New York cops (Jackie Chan and Danny Aiello) are sent to Hong Kong to track down a kidnapped girl and end up tangling with a ring of vicious heroin smugglers.

Jackie Chan was already a huge movie star in Asia in 1985 and "The Protector" was intended to be his big break into the global action-film market. It's an entertaining, typically ultra-violent '80s style shoot'em up, but it didn't catch on, so it took a few more years before "Rumble In The Bronx" finally made Jackie into a cult action hero in the West.

"Flatliners" (1990) - Kiefer Sutherland and a pre-famous Julia Roberts are part of a group of med students probing what happens after death - by stopping each other's hearts and then bringing them back. Needless to say this proves to be a spectacularly bad idea for all involved.

"Batman and Mr Freeze: SubZero" (1998) - a feature length spinoff from "Batman: The Animated Series," pitting the Dark Knight against Mr. Freeze, whose dying wife needs an organ transplant - and Barbara (Batgirl) Gordon turns out to be the perfect donor match. Nicely animated as usual.

"Ninja Cheerleaders" (2008) - yeah, this was some real high concept shit, haha. Three college girls learn the art of Ninjitsu from George Takei, which comes in handy when he gets kidnapped by the Mob, so the ladies rush to the rescue. Just turn your brain off and enjoy watching the three cutie-pie leads kung-fu the crap out of people.

Dead Silence (2007) - recently widowed guy meets ghostly small town legend and her army of creepy ventriloquist dolls. Scared the sh** outta my 10 year old with this one :D

Hellraiser (1987) and Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1989) - revisiting the birth of Pinhead. Clive Barker was really onto something with these two films. Shame that the rest of the series turned into a never ending parade of direct-to-video crap-wiches.

After Porn Ends 2 (2017) - follow up to a 2013 documentary that catches up with retired adult film stars from the 70s, 80s and 90s and sees how they're doing outside of the XXX world. Some stories are happier than others.

I recommend... amputation!

Love the first two Hellraiser films too. Great supernatural horror. Clive Barker has written many great novels and short stories.

Remember seeing this when it came out!

More of a Marvel man since being a boy, myself.

Burnt Offerings (1976) - Slow burning '70s horror flick from Dan "Dark Shadows" Curtis

The Nut Job (2014) - Harmless CGI kids 'toon nonsense, my son liked it a lot

Game Play: The Story of the Videogame Revolution (2014) - the history of video games from Pong and Pac-Man to Doom, Lara Croft, World of Warcraft and beyond. Cool trip down memory lane.

Police Academy (1984) - Hadn't seen this one in dog years, it has held up surprisingly well and is still quite funny

Watched this the other week on Netflix:

I've seen movies with a similar premise before, that of someone being terrorised in their own home by an unknown assailant, but this one had the twist that the main character/victim was both deaf and unable to speak. It was a good film, IMO.

I'm slightly disappointed with this one. It has some great scenes, but feels like it's missing a narrative focus a lot of the time, and I'm not sure if it was the theater I was in or the movie itself, but the sound mixing seemed way too loud, like it was basically blowing my ears off at points.

I was disappointed. There were some twists in the story which ruins the Alien universe IMO, and the dialogue was pretty bad too...and why put that unnecessary sex scene in the movie at that particular point in the movie?

It was of course a beatiful movie with great effects, but that was about it. I enjoyed Prometheus a lot more.
