Brilliant. Can't believe these aren't more well known as far as Samurai movies go. 

Currently about an hour into the second part, just about to break for dinner. Hopefully I'll be able to fit the whole trilogy in by tonight.

Thief is so good, the only Michael Mann movie I really love

(Manhunter is pretty good as well, and Heat could have been a great 2 hour long movie)

Very solid western meets film noir movie. There are a few issues with the plot that prevent it from being true upper echelon, but overall it's a good example of this genre mix.
