I didn't know what to expect from this, but it wasn't this. Looks like a low budget, but effectively told, simple story with an element of THX 1139 to it, but without the violence.

Revisiting this for the second time and it's opened up to me no end. Very unexpected given how badly my initial viewing of this movie went, but I'm quite enthralled by it now. It didn't even seem to drag at all, on this third watch.

^ IMO, truly great cinema always has too much going on to sink in on first watch

It didn't help that the picture quality on the first watch looked more like this (worse even since this is from a lesser Region B blu-ray and I saw it on regular TV in SD):

Instead of like this (Criterion Collection Restoration):

Third watch of Deep Red and it still holds up.

It is, that's the point.

Other movies can be great on the first watch, but lose something on the repeat once you know whodunit.

Lots of silly action, lots of guns, boobies, and Clint Eastwood's effortless cool.

Yawn! That was a waste of an hour and a half. Slow and boring Cold War sci fi thriller without the thrills.

Obscure Soviet film. Really bleak post-apocalyptic fare shot mostly in sepia that would give The Road a run for its money. Very hard to get to see this but I finally tracked it down online with English subs.

I always wondered what the fuck a rumble fish was. Now I know. This has a very different narrative and tone to The Outsiders and That Was Then, This Is Now, two other movies based on S.E. Hinton books. A bit too arty farty for me.

This was weirder than I expected, even knowing there were Pythons involved. Have no idea what the story was about, but the time jumping was fun.

I can see why this won the Oscar for best movie in 1970. It's it's dirty and bleak, but the perfect vehicle for two brilliant performances by Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman. Both were nominated for best actor, but were beaten by John Wayne. In the movie:

Joe Buck: John Wayne! You wanna tell me he's a fag?

After the movie:
John Wayne in a Playboy interview in 1970: "Wouldn't you say that the wonderful love of these two men in Midnight Cowboy, a story about two fags, qualifies as a perverse movie?"

A lesser known giallo. It's not as good as the Argento classics, but it's solid. Saw it long enough ago as well that I'd forgotten the twist.

Third time on this one and I've nothing but admiration for it.
