I really wish bands with growls would also provide a clean version for people like me who just don't get the appeal of growling.  Oh well.  [/QUOTE]

LOL! Maybe they need a new warning sticker on albums: WARNING! Contains growly vocals :)

Seriously, i used to hate growly vocals myself and i honestly don't know what changed but one day i suddenly as if someone flipped on a switch really loving the sound and it opened up the floodgates of many cool bands. I guess just keep listening and it will grow on you maybe?

I love the music...i just hate the growls.  They make me cringe.  Small doses is about all that I can handle them.  I honestly don't see that ever changing.  Old dog new tricks and all that stuff.

There aren´t that many raw vocals on this release, and they aren´t really growls either. More hardcore tinged shouting/distorted vocals. Great album btw Clap

Thia one might be my top album of 2015 if it weren't for the growling or whatever you want to call vocals that sound like they want a cookie.

Quiet World

It'll probably still make my top 30, but much further down.

I've been buying metal with growling vocals on since the 80's and some of it's better than others but even after all this time I still prefer a traditional singer. Take death metal for instance - can't think of a single album off the top of my head that has 100% clean vocals and I'd like to hear someone do one but the nature of the music would make it difficult for a singer to sing melodically over it. Although, perhaps some melodic death metal would lend itself to total clean vocals.

There are plenty of clean vocals to be found on Intronaut albums. The beauty is how it's all mixed together and extreme vocals whether shouted, growled, shrieked or puked lend an extra harshness to the music that clean vocals just don't deliver. Perfect example is the last Cynic album which IMHO would have greatly benefited from the contrast of extreme vocals with the softer clean vocals. Just my preference but i really dig the contrast

^ Oh yes, there's plenty that mix growls with clean vocals in the extreme forms of metal but I don't know of any death metal that has 100% clean vocals. The question then though would be is it still death metal, especially if it was more the melodic variety.

^ I think it depends on the band. Take Nile for instance, even if they had clean vocals it would still be death metal though how the hell you'd actually sing that way over a Nile song beats me! LOL

Hi everyone. Been a while since I've posted here. Cheers! Beer
Always nice to see you here Jeff. Busy being a rock star? WinkBig smile

I've recently formed a band with two other musicians at my university, so almost! LOL Big smile Good to see you too, Jonas. I don't always have time to hang out here as much as I used to, but I do miss this place if I take too long of a hiatus... Embarrassed

NP:
Man the years just go by so fast. University...you still live by your parents or is the university far from your parents and you live there? I sometimes forget that it´s almost 10 years since we started talking, and you were just a young boy then, with a lot of knowledge about prog rock and metal for a boy that age.

...actually just rewrote my "Human" review and will post it pretty soon.

Yeah, time definitely flies. Crazy to think I joined PA in 2008 at just twelve! Wacko I'm living at university, though it's not all that far away from home. Lots of work but lots of fun! Big smile I read your updated Human review, and it sounds like we're still in total agreement about this one. Landmark album that still sounds amazing today.

NP:

First listen to this Australian melodic/progressive power metal album from 1994. Sounding great so far!

Truth be told, if they sang cleanly and I could understand what they were singing I might decide that I wished it were instrumental instead.  You just can't please some people.

I do wonder if a band like Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden were to begin today, knowing what we know now, would they think they have to growl their lyrics to make them sound even more sinister or would they stick with clean vocals or maybe mix them in where deemed necessary.  And I imagine for those that like this style this would be a good thing...
