NEVERMORE - In Memory cover
http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/nevermore/in-memory(ep)
NEVERMORE - The Politics of Ecstasy cover
I enjoy both releases. In Memory is pretty much a continuation of the sound from the debut album, while The Politics of Ecstasy is a much harder edged and thrashy release. It´s also a rather bleak album and a personal favorite of mine.

DREAM THEATER - The Astonishing cover
http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/dream-theater/the-astonishing

...my first draft review isn´t very positive. In fact I think it´s their worst release to date. Overlong, overblown, and quite tedious. I´ll say here what I won´t say directly in a review...it bores me to tears and while there are other previous Dream Theater releases that I don´t enjoy that much either, this one takes the prize as the album that effectively put me to sleep. It was an ordeal getting through the full release (especially the first disc, which just seems to go on and on and on) and having to listen to it more than once to do a review...ugh. So yeah I can´t hide my bias completely in my review, but I actually think my rating is pretty high considering how Little my enjoyment was with the album. I do try and rate as objectively as possible.

I'm still in the process of discovering everything this album has to offer, but the first few listens have blown me away. This is one of those few death metal bands that knows how to be technical as hell and still write memorable songs. Thumbs Up

I haven´t heard this one yet, but I can´t say I agree with the memorable songwriting. I always felt they had a sterile and not very Unique sound. Their musicianship on the other hand...ehhay that´s incredible. But I must say that I listen to their music foremost as a musician interested in technical details, and not so much as a music lover.

You might like this one more than their previous ones, Jonas. There's more of an emphasis on their melodic and progressive side this time around, and the whole record feels less showboaty (but still technically amazing) than their earlier albums. You can tell they've spent time focusing on making tight and coherent compositions. It's been a while since I've heard the older Obscura albums, but this is probably my favorite.

I´ll of course give it a listen and write a fair review, but they are just one of those artists which generally leaves me Cold. I guess I´m just not that interested in tech death anymore. Or maybe I´m just searching for a different take on the genre.
