Fifth listen. I could see this potentially passing Scenes as my favorite DT album, I love it that much. It's basically classic DT mixed with Ayreon (mostly with how the album is structured.)  Also, I've always liked Labrie more than pretty much any other DT fan in the world, but I have to say he's absolutely fantastic on this album: It feels like he really stepped up his game and delivered some of his best vocals ever.)

^I'm glad I'm not the only one who really likes Labrie. I personally don't understand all the complaints. I'm kind of skeptical about the new Dream Theater, but I'll give it a try when it comes out. Usually double albums overwhelm me.

^Yeah, I get that double albums can be challenging for some people to focus on the whole way through, and this one is well over 2 hours, which is pretty insane. I personally have no problems with long albums at all, if they're varied enough and if the songwriting is good enough to hold my attention and on this album that's definitely the case.

And yeah, some of the criticism Labrie gets drives me crazy. He is admittedly inconsistent live based on the live albums and DVD's I have (excellent on Score, but a little off on some of the others I have), but most singers are, and in studio he's always great.

He didn´t impress me the two times I saw Dream Theater live. Better on the Awake tour than on the Falling...tour, but there was something about food poisoning that had an effect on his vocal cords on the latter tour, which might explain it. He generally screams instead of sings when he has to hit the high notes singing live, and that bothers me. In the studio he is a brilliant singer with a Unique voice. Never understood the criticism of his performances on studio albums....

I´ll have to revisit Images & Words soon. It has a special sentimental value to me, and I need to rewrite my original PA review, as it´s not nearly as detailed or well written as I´d like it to be. It was one of my first reviews.

Near the end of my eighth listen now. So that's like around 17-18 hours I've listened to this thing and I'm nowhere near tired of it yet! Hopefully my local CD store has it in Friday so I can buy it and look at the lyrics over the weekend, because that may make it even more enjoyable.

Aside from the old classics I've had 30 years, I don't think I've ever listened to any album that many times on the bounce. I'll have to put it to the top of my buy list.

I'm still trawling through David Bowie which 25-odd albums later, I'm now up to the latest. It's feeling less fun than when i started!!
